MAXINE RENZ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2018.
MAXINE R. RENZ We sadly announce the death of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Maxine R. Renz on January 17, 2018. She was a very special person who saw the world change and evolve over her 104 years. Maxine was born Jan. 1, 1914 to Oscar and Myrtle Hofflander in Kansas City, MO. She attended Swinney Grade School, Westport High School and the Kansas City Kansas Business School. Maxine initially worked alongside her father at the Kansas City Board of Trade, recording trades on a giant blackboard with chalk. Shortly after business school, she met her future husband Carl, eventually marrying and raising two children. They were loyal and faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. With her ability to type over 100 words per minute, she took her skill to School District 110 in Overland Park. As Johnson County rapidly grew, then came the consolidations of the school districts, forming one, which now is known as the Shawnee Mission School District. She became the secretary to the superintendent of schools, working there until her retirement. Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, sister Charlene Hollenbeck and her great granddaughter Ashley Nicole. Surviving are her children Janet (Ed) of Copper Canyon, TX, and Steve (Vickie) of Leawood, KS, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Maxine loved to travel, especially to Sweden, home of her ancestors. She cruised the oceans, traveled by bus through Canada and was always up for a road trip. She enjoyed a good game of cards (poker was her favorite), reading time with her grandchildren and was a babysitter extraordinaire. Her cookie jar was always full. A private family ceremony will be held prior to interment at Mount Moriah.
