Miss ya Hot Rod. Had a lot of fun times on the UGT forums. It took me a while to stop by here and leave a message. You will never be forgotten.

We spent hours playing hide and seek in the crawl space under his house when I was little. I can't believe he's gone. It feels like a big part of my life was stolen from me. I guess the only thing left to do is try to forget and move on

Like others on here, I discussed politics on an internet forum with the poster I knew as "Hot Rod". I rarely agreed with his opinions, and while I could be bothered by his intransigence, I had a certain respect for the doggedness in how he stuck to his guns. Rest in Peace.

Hot Rod - The forums will never be the same without you. I haven't really posted for a while, though I lurk from time to time still. It brings me extreme sadness to know you are no longer with us. Bless you and thank you for the banter over the years. You will be remembered and missed.

I never met Clark (and in fact didn't know his real name). But I did speak to him for the better part of two decades on an internet forum, rarely agreeing with him on a political issue (he loved to needle me about my hometown of Chicago) but never once having a negative personal interaction with him. He was friendly, honest and open, seeking to offer help and his personal experiences on a litany of issues that I took to heart. I'll miss the old man. Condolences to his family.

I knew Hot Rod for about 15 years. One thing he loved to do was to debate and he was good at it. One thing I never admitted to him was that I admired his sharp mind, his determination and his ability to put his thoughts into words and to influence people when we sparred of the mind. He must have outwitted and beat me and changed my point of view hundreds of times over the years and one day I hope to hone my mind so that it will become as sharp as his was back when we debated politics on the forums. Your passing has left a hole in my heart and my life has become darker without you.

I have known Clark "Hot Rod" Johnson for 20 years through his internet persona on a small political internet forum. While I often found his politics infuriating, I will easily acknowledge that discussions with him helped me better understand many aspects of American life and society. I do know that he was truly proud and fond of his nephew's family, and he recalled his mother with great affection. I often think of Hot Rod as a true child of the depression - molded from the hardships of his early years and perhaps never fully benefiting from the prosperity he helped create throughout his life. Hot Rod served his country in Germany during his enlistment and remained as staunch and good a patriot as you might ever meet in all the years that I have known him. May he rest in peace.

When thinking about Clark the following quote jumps to mind from one his favorite authors who we discussed many times.
I guard my treasures: my thought, my will, my freedom. And the greatest of these is freedom.

I never met Clark personally. He was one of the posters on a political chat room that I have been following for 16 years or so. We disagreed often but that is probably what made it enjoyable for both him and I. I believe it was a big part of his life because I could open up the forum and he was usually posting. RIP Hot Rod
