A Mothers Prayer
Please god help me understand, for I don't think I like your plan.
Please god don't let me down, for I really need you to tell me now.
I can't think of any reason why, you needed to take my son my life.
I only hope, you let him know that we miss him so.
I can't stand this part of life, you know I just want to sit and cry, but I know Stevens looking down from High.
I know he's crying now, because he knows that we miss him so.
Its hard for me to understand, this kind of senceless plan.
I thank you need to explain just why, you took my son my life.
Steven was my son my life, but you've taken him home and I just need you to tell me why.
Please god help me understand, for I don't think I like your plan.
Please god don't let me down, for I really need you to tell me now.
I know his dad hurts inside, and I know his sisters always cry.
They just need to know why you took him home that night.
They need you to explain your plan, for they don't understand.
I know they don't like your plan, and I know they want to understand.
Please god help his daughter to, for she's so precious to be hurt by you.
She cry's for him, to hold her tight. So please god help her understand just why you took her dad.
Please god help me understand, for I don't like you plan.
Please god don't let me down for I really need you to tell me now.
Please god help his wife, for I now she is hurting so. I know she is looking up high for you to tell her why.
Please god help her be strong for she hurts and has to go on.
I know she crys for him, so please god give her a helping hand.
I know she holds their daughter tight, just to get through each night.
Please god help me understand, for I don't think I like your plan.
Please God don't let me down, for I really need you to tell me now.
I hope you will understand just why I have doubts in my mind. I thank you need to tell me now, just why you make me cry.
You know my heart aches inside, for you've taken a part of my life.
I don't thank I will ever understand just why he was part of your plan. I hope you let him know, that we still need him so.
I hope you understand that we didn't want to let him go.
Please god help me understand, for I don't thank I like your plan.
Please god don't let me down, for I really need you to tell me now.
Please god let Steven know
Please god, please tell him so
Please god
We love him so.

I will always love you and will hold you in my heart.
Your loving mother.

Steven was my brother. He was the best brother a sister could ask for. He was a loving father and a dear friend. He would always make you laugh when you were down and out. The world lost a great man but the heavens have gained the best angel! He will be forever loved and never forgotten! When I get sad and blue I just look to the stars and know my brother is there trying to make me smile still. I love you and miss you always Pete!

STEVEN
LOOK UP HIGH AMONG THE STARS AND YOU'LL
SEE STEVEN THE BRIGHTEST STAR.
HE'S NOW IN HEAVEN LOOKING DOWN, WATCHING OVER HIS LOVED ONES NOW, AND HE NEVER WANTS TO SEE US FROWN.
YES HE KNOWS THAT HE WAS LOVED, BY EVERYONE HE TOO LOVES.
HE WALKS IN HEAVEN HIGH ABOVE, WITH ALL THE LOVE ONES WE STILL LOVE.
THEY HELD HIS HAND THROUGH THE GOLDEN LIGHT, AND HE KNEW HE'D BE ALRIGHT.
NOW HE WAITS AMONG THEM ALL, FOR OUR SOULS TO JOIN THEM ALL.
BE NOT AFRAID FOR OUR SOULS TO PAST, FOR WE'LL ALL BE TOGETHER AGAIN AT LAST.
STEVEN FOREVER MISSED FOREVER LOVED.

I am Steven's aunt and I had a large part raising him for his first few years. He and his sisters were always staying with me and my girls. Sometimes they stayed a couple of days and other times for 2 or 3 weeks. It is like I lost one of my own. One week after his death, I lost a close friend. Pam knew and loved him also. She and other friends would hold him and dance around the room. I like to think that he and Pam are dancing together and waiting for the rest of us to join in. You will never be forgotten!!!!!

As Steve's (Petie) cousin I want the world to know what a wonderful person he was. Steve loved his family and was so very proud to be a dad. We all must ensure Anita knows what a wonderful man he was and how much she was loved.

Steve, We are so sorry and feel your pain for the loss of Steven. We have known him since he was knee high to a grasshopper and always called him Peetie. As he became a man the name Peetie was not so much appreciated as most kids prefer to be called by their manly name. Steven was always a joy to be around, always making others laugh. He was full of life, hope and happiness. Steven will be truely missed but never forgotten. He is in heaven now with Larry and I know deep in my heart Larry is taking good care of him! We love you Peetie/Steven and always will.............Lawson and Gooch Family (KC MO)

Steven was a good friend of mine. We worked together at B&L plumbing and at Reddi services. He was the nicest coworker that I have ever worked with. He always had a way to make you smile and he refused to let me pay for lunch on lunch breaks. He would always lend a helping hand. He will be missed. My heart and prayers go out to his family. May Steven rest in peace.

As a teacher at Holden I often lose track of my students, and had done so with Steven. However, I have learned that my students' personalities do not change much as they grow up. I remember Steven as a nice young man with a great smile who tried to be a good friend. I am certain that was still true of him. I am sorry for your loss.

Steve was one of my most dear friends. Growing up with him was always interesting :) I have so many wonderful memories that nothing can take away. He was a genuinely wonderful person. His baby girl was his whole world and, even though I only saw him once since she was born, he was one of the best daddy's ever! I will miss him everyday and he will always be one of "my boys". Love you & miss you Steve! Always~

I didn't really know Steve, however the few times I was around him I could tell he was a good person. I know his family and friends are hurting, but be comforted knowing he is among the angels now. My prayers and thoughts are with the Bertling family, as well as Steve's friends, Neil Johnston and Nicole Neu. This is such a terrible tragedy, such an unthinkable act. May he rest in peace.

Our family has known Steve for some time and thought very highly of him.
One of our favorite memories is of a float trip to Southern MO with Steve & Carmen, Danny & Sarah, and a group of our friends and family. It was a wonderful weekend and even more so because of Steve's sense of humour.
He will be missed by the entire Spencer family.

The last time I saw Steve was at his grandmothers funeral in Wisconsin. Steve and our son were best buddies when we visited Dick & Anita. I had not seen Steve for several years before that day and was delighted by his personallity and shy smile. Words cannot discribe my heart felt sympathy to his family for the loss of such a wonderful young man.
