JEAN BAXTER Obituary

Jean Baxter, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas went peacefully to be with the Lord on October 7, 2015 with his family at his bedside. Jean was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on January 8, 1922 to Miles and Grace Baxter. On July 13, 1943, Jean married the love of his life Margaret Real where they spent the next 64 years together as husband and wife until she passed away in 2008. Jean is now at peace reunited with his bride. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 as a crew member over the "Burma Hump" in C-47 and B-29 where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following the war he returned to Kansas and began an 38 year career as Lead Electrician for TWA. Upon retirement he dedicated many years with "Save A Connie" restoring the Martin 404, Super Constellation, and DC-3. He was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church holding many church positions and increasing the membership over the many years. Jean loved fishing and hunting and made many trips to Canada with his Son, Son in law and grand children, he also spent many weekends at Beaver Lake, AR. Jean is survived by his daughter Karen (Hal) Shute; Son Le Roy D. Baxter (Sharon); Granddaughter Kellie (Jeremy) Nass; Cory Shute; Grandsons Stephen Baxter (Tammy), Mark Baxter (Nikki); Great-grand children Gracelynn Baxter, Brycon Baxter, Owen Baxter, Isabella Shute, Lukas Nass, Colin Nass. Jean was preceded in death by his parents, sister Billie Baxter, and wife Margaret (Real) Baxter. The family of Jean Baxter wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful Nurses and Staff at Garden Terrace of Overland Park, Kansas for making Jean as comfortable as possible, and their compassion and support during his stay. Jean will be interned at a later date with family, at the Leavenworth Veterans National Cemetery. I am grateful for the life of Mr. Baxter. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.
