BATAVIA – Rudolph Chalupa, 84, of Batavia, formerly a longtime resident of Geneva, passed away Wednesday June 1, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 19, 1926, in Chicago, the son of Rudolph and Jennie (Michalski) Chalupa.
Mr. Chalupa graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Berwyn. He was a Navy veteran serving as an Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd class (CA)USNR in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his discharge, he attended Western Michigan College of Education in Kalamazoo, Mich., receiving a degree in aviation mechanics. Afterward, he and three college friends traveled the United States for a year working on farms and other odd jobs to pay their expenses.
Rudy owned and operated his own business, Service Adhesives in Maywood, for many years. After selling his company, he worked for the old Geneva Community Hospital in the maintenance department. He loved to travel, especially cruises, was an avid fisherman and also had his pilot's license. He was a longtime and active member of the Geneva Lutheran Church where he was an usher. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his best friend of 25 years, Barbara Rohde of Geneva; three children, Cheryl Conley of Clinton, Wis., Mark Chalupa of Philadelphia, Pa., and Amanda (Grant) Myers of Elgin; also survived by Barbara's children, Teresa Rohde of Colorado, D'Ann Rohde of Florida and Gretchen (Scott) Oftedahl of Aurora; grandchildren, Todd (Kari) Wheaton, Blake (Lisa) Wheaton, Laura Chalupa, Kevin and Elizabeth Myers, Christopher (Kim) Rohde, Courtney Rohde, Taylor and Emma Mathews and Hunter and Cheyanne Oftedahl; and great-grandchild, Sean Wheaton.
He was preceded in death by his parents .
Funeral service will be held at noon Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. Third St., with Rev. Martha Halls officiating.
Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at the church.
