Harold Burgess was one of my favorite online friends. We never actually met in person although we did often talk on the phone. I found it interesting that he was born in the year that my dad was ordained an elder in the UMC. He seemed to always be interested in my perspective on subjects in which we both had knowledge. Maybe I will someday meet his daughter at Delanco.

As a teen at Brown City Camp, Harold and I began a friendship over several summers. We entered Bethel College together in 1951 and had the privilege of continuing that friendship as dormmmates and buddies. I remember him as a person who was a good mix of fun and purposefulness. His values were a positive influence in my life. The class of '55' recognized his leadership skills and elected him as class president. Later we taught together at Bethel. After he moved on, we didn't see each other often, but when we did, our reminiscing, his perspective on life, his sense of humor and engaging chuckle helped us pick up where we left off. I only regret we didn't connect more often. He was a great person. I will miss him!
Marcia, you and your family are in our prayers daily that God will minister peace to you, and make your memories with Harold a source of great joy.

When I first arrived in Wilmore in 1991, Harold was one of the 'special' persons who welcomed me into the community and confirmed my belief that God really had called me to leave UK and teach at Asbury. On many occasions after that Harold offered spiritual insights that helped me to more effectively integrate my faith and teaching. In this way, Harold touched many more lives than he could have known and his influence will continue for many, many years.

Harold was my second cousin and we never lived close to one another. However, when we did make contact, it was always good to hear of his ministry and family. I was especially close to his parents when we lived in Elkhart, IN for 5 years. We lived only 4 blocks from them and often shared holiday meals together.
I became a widow 10/14/11, when I suddenly lost my dear husband, Jack, only 57 years old.
So Marsha, God is with you and HE will be your "rock." I pray your family and friends will shower you with much love and support.
