In the summer of 1975, I had the pleasure of getting Art current to fly again, in a Stearman he was going to buy from Dick Mulloy at Bowman Field's Kentucky Flying Service. In addition to local flights, mostly from Lexington, we flew to an Army surplus vehicle gathering in Kansas City. Lots of jeeps and motorcycles, and one half-track, but we had the only airplane there. It was a memorable trip not just for the flying part, but also because I had to hand-prop the Stearman before every flight — and when the engine was hot, that took a lot of pulls! My arms, shoulders, and back were all stiff for a week after that trip. Art was a pleasure to be around, as you all know, and I'm eternally grateful for Dick asking if I'd like that assignment.

Sold Mr. Francis a 1950 Ford F-1 pickup in the early 1980's. I enjoyed doing business with him. I often thought about him and the old truck. It was a good one and so was he.

I once saw an ad in military vehicle magazine. It was an Ad Mr. Francis put in the magazine in the classified section. So I call Mr. Francis up because we had the same rare wwII jeep a 1941 GP. I am from the Western part of Ky. My wifes main office is in Lexington. I started going with her when she went to Lexington and would visit with Mr. Francis. He would give me parts to help with my restoration. I would say but this part is worth $500. He would say oh I don't need money. Very nice man. I had not seen him in a few years and was wondering how he was doing. Sorry for your loss.
Wonderful memories of a special man.

Art was a "treasured memory" that will be greatly missed by many friends from the National Stearman Fly-In in Galesburg, Illinois.
