BAUCUM, EVELYN BRACKETT - age 81, of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015. She was a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lenoir City and former member of Oak Ridge Church of God and Vaughns Chapel Baptist Church. Evelyn was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and retired from Bechtel Jacobs in Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Baucum; daughter, Debra Ann McCollister Martin; parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brackett. Survived by her son, Terry McCollister of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Amy Cox and Jamie Gwinn Cox both of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Kayla Santoro, Dylan Gilbertson and Charlise Gwinn; brother, Deane Brackett of Lenoir City; sisters, Nancy Moore of California and Linda Tayloe of Virginia; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hawkins Chapel, 102 B Street, Lenoir City. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Eddie Click officiating. Family and friends will gather at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Oak Ridge Memorial Park for graveside services. Hawkins Chapel, 102 B Street, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.

BYERS, FLOYD MITCHEL - age 85, of Knoxville, passed away on January 26, 2015. Chief Warrant Officer Byers (CW4) retired from the U.S. Army with 30 years of service. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal-37 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Commendation Medal-1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal-1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation, Senior Parachute Badge; Master Army Aviator Badge, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Actions Unit Citation, Four Oversea Bars. Floyd was a member of Tracy City First United Methodist Church and former deacon of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. He was a past president of the Military Officers Association of America (TROA) and the West Knoxville Kiwanis Club. Floyd was preceded in death by his former wife, Maria Mayr Byers; parents, William J. Byars and Maude E. Byars; brother, Donald Byars; sisters, Byrtle Dykes, Verna Coppinger; and step granddaughter, Audrey Willoughby. Floyd is survived by his wife, Patsy R. Byers of Knoxville; children and spouses, Michael and Patricia Byers of Battery Park, VA, Karen and Jim Newton of Marietta, GA, Anita Byers of Seymour, TN, Wanda and Kerry Sanders of Tracy City, TN and Christa Hirsch of Nurnberg, Germany; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Wilson, Amory, MS, Deloris Dykes and husband, Benny; Mary McDaniel, all of Grundy County, TN. COOMER, IDA MAE (ARNWINE) - 78, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2015. She was born July 13, 1936, to Carson Arnwine and Mary Jane Loope Arnwine of Liberty Hill, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Arnwine. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carroll M. Coomer; daughters, Janice Farr (Rick) of Powell, TN, Cindy Cole (Alan) of Huntington, W.VA.; sister, Anna Mae Arnwine, Liberty Hill, TN. Ida, known as Mama Coomer by her grandchildren Rebekah Connelly, Amy Walker (Bret), Keith Cole (Sarah); and great-granddaughter Kate IdaMae Connelly the joy of her life. GANDY, HELEN L. - age 86, of Knoxville, left this life on Saturday, January 24, 2015. She was born in Norwich, Connecticut on June 26, 1928. Growing up, she was a member of The United Congregational Church, and was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy. She spent many years selling furniture at J. C. Penny Company and retired from there after 19 years of service. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister; a friend to many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Edna Loumer of Norwich Connecticut. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, W.H. Gandy, Jr.; daughters: Sheryl Owen of Knoxville, and Debra (Joe) Alder of Rogersville; grandchildren: Brad Owen of Maryland; Justin Owen of Knoxville; Megan Alder of Rogersville, and sister Elizabeth Bishop of Knoxville. Funeral service will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, January 29, 2015, Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Bob Gandy officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., Highland West Cemetery. Dorothy grew up in Eastern Kentucky and NE Tennessee where her father was a Superintendent with Blue Diamond Coal Mines. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hampson Sr., parents; Dillo and Dorothy Crook Sanders; brothers John and Stuart Sanders and grandson Steve Forester. Mrs. Hampson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Hampson, Jr. and wife Jean of Felton CA; daughter and son-in-law Sandra Forester Mossman and husband Pete of Knoxville; grandchildren Robert III; (Allison) Scotts Valley, CA and Michael (Jennifer) Ben Lomand, CA; Scott Forester (Kelly) Knoxville and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Florence Griggs of Morristown, Margaret Young of Louisville KY, Lillie Higgins of Jefferson City TN; along with several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday 2:00 PM at Manorhouse Assisted Living 8501- S Northshore Dr. with Rev. Dave Graybeal officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. JAMES, ELIZABETH TESTER (BETTY) - Knoxville  
JAMES, ELIZABETH (BETTY) TESTER - daughter of the late Raleigh Smith and Irene Prater Tester, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015. Betty was a faithful member of Second Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and long-time member of the Chancel Choir and the Joy Singers with whom she was a soloist. She taught preschool for twenty-five years and helped establish both the West Hills Baptist Kindergarten and the preschool of Second Presbyterian Church. Betty always considered working with children to be a true blessing. She was also active in many charitable and civic organizations including Chi Omega Fraternity, where she served as an advisor and as President of the Chi Omega House Corporation; member of the Junior League of Knoxville; member of Cherokee Hills Garden Club; and former member of Girls Cotillion and the Nine O'Clock Cotillion. Betty was a graduate of Bradford Junior College of Haverhill, Massachusetts and of the University of Tennessee, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ingram James. Betty is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth J. and Jackson G. Kramer, of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia J. and David Glenn Teague, of Jackson, Tennessee; grandchildren, Katherine Teague Fowler, William Teague, Carlisle Kramer, Margaret Gray Kramer, John Teague and Jackson Kramer, great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ingram Fowler, sister and brother-in-law, Emily T. and Samuel T. Tinsley; and nieces Mary Nell Tinsley Pruitt and Renie Tinsley Carroll. Betty was deeply devoted to her family, all of whom loved her dearly and all of whom join in the celebration of her life. A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at Second Presbyterian Church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
