I worked as a Sergeant for Bob (Captain Kurth) at Wilshire Division. He was a good man and a good leader. He had the courage to stand up for what was right, and he always supported policemen over the brass. A rare man. Rest in peace, sir.

To the family of Captain Robert E. Kurth, LAPD, Retired. BOB and I met at the Academy, as Classmates. Friendship developed immediately. I would give him rides to the Academy and home. We Graduated January 24, 1969, and he went to Harbor Div., and I went to 77th. We would meet occasionally and share our experiences. I left LAPD and ultimately retired as an MP, US Army. One of the first things I did was look up Bob, then a Lieutenant. We kept in touch until he retired and went to Knoxville. Bob was a model Police Officer whose Poster would set the minimum standard for every Law Enforcement Officer on any Department in existance.
Bob, Partner, EOW too soon. Like so many others, I am here for you. I have your back. Should anyone in your family ever have a need, I too am here for them, for you

I am so very sorry to see that Bob has passed on. He was such a fine man and a friend, always a friend.
I remember when we were in the Academy and Bob didn't have a car. I would meet him in North Long Beach and we would go together. I remember after the Academy Bob was at Harbor Division and I had gone there from 77th and we happened to meet. We, two, recent Academy graduates. We told each other what our exploits were since Graduation. Bob grabbed his badge and showed me the scars from a knife that had been thrown at him.
Bob grew and succeeded on the Department reaching the highest rank of anyone in our class. I already miss you partner. I'll be seeing you again before too long.

I met bob in early 1970. His wife(at the time) and my wife(at the time)worked together. They had invited us to a party at their house. At the time I didn't know that Bob was a policeman. during that party he and his friends(also cops) had planted the seed in my mind about being a policeman. November of 1970 I was accepted into the LAPD Academy. What a thrill. During the academy time Bob and his fiends kept track of my progress, I would see them often at the academy. Upon leaving the academy after 6 months I was assigned to a probationary division, where I would work in the streets. Well so happens that I was assigned to the same division Bob was assigned to. Now I had 12months to go before I passed probation. During that time I got to know Bob not only as a friend but as a teacher and a partner. He did a good job and I retired happy. As a friend we went fishing, hunting camping together. He never failed to let me know when there was something going on. We went to Bob and Karie's wedding at the Queen Mary. What a bash.He was the type of person I wanted to be when I grow up. He was always there if you needed him. Our paths crossed many times during our careers on the department. He went up and he was the right man for the job. bob tried to boost me up but I was very happy on the street. Bob finally said he understood. Those who have had the good fortune to be friends with, and to have just met, him. They would all agree that he was a caring and devoted person. I can't imagine how many lives he has influenced. Bob was that kind of person that would let you trust him. He was a man's man and a woman's man, although he couldn't turn a wrench. He was that kind of a special person. My wife and I will miss Bob very much, he has touched our lives in so many ways. There is a void that will never be filled. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Karie, his family and to all his friends. I know that he will have a special place at the side of his maker. My wife and I will have a toast to bob every full moon, because Bob would want to be there to enjoy it WE LOVE YOU BOB AND GOD BLESS YOU

To Bob's family & friends: I met Bob when he became a new sergeant with the LAPD assigned to Southwest Division, around 1974 or 1975. I had been a sergeant a little longer than Bob & I was assigned to work with him on Team 3 & break him in as a new sergeant; which didn't take long. Southwest Division is a busy, "South L.A." Division, where everything happened, and it happened all the time. Bob & I became good friends and remained so during our careers. In 1993 I worked for Bob when he was the captain at Bunko-Forgery Division. I came in as a lieutenant and he gave me the choice assignment as the Officer-In-Charge of the Fraud Section, for which I will be forever grateful.
Bob was a valued member of the LAPD, and he will be remembered and he will be missed.

Beverly, I'm sorry to hear about Robert. You know he's in a better place. I won't ever forget the good time he showed us in Los Angeles, and he took us to the Police Academy. You were his "beautiful baby sister" He was proud of you. I know you will miss him. We all will. Love, Rosemary

Bob was not only the strongest, most caring and loving individual that I have ever met but he also was the father I never had. He was my hero and superman and when storms would come the only one who could calm them in my eyes was Bobbie. I'm so selfish to wish he were still here happy and healthy doing his silly shaninigans such as penguin guy or being the cabana boy. Bob always put others first before himself and made sure anyone around him felt his love and knew he cared for them. I am beyond blessed to have known Bob and I too one day can't wait to greet you with arms wide open. I love you and Karie so very much and miss you like crazy bffffffffff.

What can I say about the great Captain Bob... well, as a matter of fact a lot. I met Bob and Karie only 5 years ago, but I feel like I have known them all my life. It didnt take long for them to not only become my regulars, but my tailgating buddies, and my family. Bob and Karie welcomed me into their lives with open arms and since that day never have stopped showing me love. From lunch dates, to movie nights and every celebration in betweeen, Bob and Karie have been my best friends. Bob was that lovable uncle who shared his crazy stories of his time spent on the force with LAPD. And those stories will stick with me for all my life. He took me on his PI work here in Knoxville and I felt like a real spy. Bob, was a father figure to me always helping me with my many car problems, and life obstacles. He never gave up on any one and would be there in a heart beat no matter the problem. Bob had an answer for everything and he was a wise and honest man. His compassion and love knew no bounds and with a man like that in your life, you have to thank God every day for the time you got with Bob. Men like that are not around as much any more. I will always be greatful for all my time spent with Captain Bob and Karie because without them, my life would have a huge hole. I love you so very very much Bob and I know you knew it. You were always one of the good guys.

I worked with Bob at LAPD. When he was a Lieutenant on LAPD he sat on my first oral interview board from which I was promoted to Police Officer III. That was my first contact with Bob and from there he became a friend and mentor. I had lost contact with him since he left LAPD. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. Kara, my thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time.

Bob was a one-of-a-kind special & amazing man who will be deeply missed by many. I think it would be impossible to measure the number of lives he has touched or positively impacted over the years. Caring, generous, and hilariously funny; Bob had the ability to make anyone and everyone around him feel special. Yet if the chips were down and trouble around....he's undoubtedly the guy you would want by your side to guide you safely through the storm. My heart and prayers go out to Karrie and his loved ones in dealing with this incredible loss. May Bob's legacy of how we should approach life & treat each other live on in all who were blessed to have known this marvelous man.

My Precious Brother. "His Grace was sufficient for thee"... I'm thankful to have the assurance that you are finally at Peace and I will see you, and Dad again one day.
I was going through the large box of photos and personal items you had recently given me,and had no idea that you had saved all of my baby pictures. You had many pictures I had never seen before. I know that you loved me but now I can see that you also sheltered, and protected me as well. You took over Dads place with me,and you were great at it. No one can take away the knowledge you taught me, or the wonderful years of memories, vacation trips, and deep love that we had together. Although I am still a little miffed (j/k), that you registered me in grade school when I was only 5 years old in the 1st grade. I found out it was because you wanted to join the Navy and you couldn't do it if you were baby sitting me. ha! You will always be my Hero, and I thank you for taking care of me. Thank you for giving me away at my wedding, and thank you for taking care of my boys; Waylon & Joshua. They loved you deeply, as did I.
When I see you now, I see a love in your eyes, and a happiness, and peace that you had not had for many years. You are once again the; gentle, kind, loving and compassionate person you always were.
Enjoy Heaven and save a place at the Supper table. One day we will all sit down together and there will be great joy and love, because in Heaven there is no sorrow or hate, only Love. Love endures all things. I love you my Butchie. God bless you. your only baby sister, Bev.
