STEVEN FRIEDENSTAB Obituary

FRIEDENSTAB, STEVEN JON - born February 7, 1966, beloved father, friend and brother left us on June 25, 2014. Steve adored his beautiful daughters Kate and Margaret. As an elementary school teacher with many special degrees, he was devoted to the hundreds of children he taught over the years; many of whom affectionately nick-named him "Mr. F"! He loved and entertained us with jokes and abounding energy. Steve set high goals for himself, but always was thankful for any small kindness. He enjoyed running, gardening and sports. When Steve wasn't outside, we'd always find him in well-pressed clothes and a tie. He said that he learned to wake up early and to take pride in his appearance, while proudly serving in the United States Navy. Steve remained Catholic as he was raised while growing up in Petoskey, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his cherished mother, his father, and his dear brother Kevin. He is survived by his daughters; his sisters: Sharion, Kelly, Nancy, Sandy, Chrissy and brother Scott; cousins, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, very good friends, best friend Greg, and girlfriend Lana; they will always remember him with love. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Rotunda of the East Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery, Lyons View, with full military honors. Interment is private, and will follow at the Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, Gov. John Sevier Highway. Prayers to all of Mr. F's family and Lana and her girls. Tyler had such wonderful memories of his 3rd grade at Sterchi. It was also such a treat that Mr. F asked Tyler to come speak to his 5th grade class the last few years. As difficult as this time is for each of his girls, family, & friends, hold on to the memories and the promise that you will see him again.

Steve was my team leader my very first year of teaching at Northwest Middle. He saw potential in me that I never even dreamed of at the time. He gave me the opportunities to flourish as a leader just as he pushed his students to grow in the classroom. Every time I spoke with Steve, he talked about his girls and how much he loved them. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family during this hard time. May you find peace and understanding. RIP Steve- You will be missed.

We always enjoyed spending time with Steve and his family when we visited our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren in Knoxville. He always made me feel like he enjoyed our conversations. Peace and blessings for his family. May he rest in peace.

We will always have great memories of Steve. He was a great friend to my mom and a father figure to my brother,my sisters and me. My youngest sister, Julia, was especially close to Steve because her best friend is Steve's daughter, Margaret Ann. Steve treated Julia as if she were his own.
We have so many funny stories of us all being together through the years and will hold on to them forever!
Many prayers to Steve's family…..we will miss you so much, Steve!
Love,
Sarah Fisher

Steve & I grew up in Petoskey and went to school together. He was one of my closest friends in and out of school. He always had a smile on his face and made me laugh until my stomach hurt. He was my first boyfriend/crush. I am saddened that he left this Earth so early. He will be missed. RIP my friend.

Our prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Mr. F made my 3rd grade year the best and most memorable by far. He was always thinking of new ways to make learning fun from giving spelling test from on top of our desk, to teaching us all how to use chopsticks! He was an amazing teacher who loved his students. You will be greatly missed Mr. F.

Thoughts and prayers for all the family and friends. Mr. F was my 3rd grade teacher at Sterchi. I will never forget all the spelling tests he gave us while standing on the desks, jumping out the fire escape to go to recess, and throwing football with him during recess. He not only taught me what I should have learned in 3rd grade, but he taught me what a teacher should really be like. What a wonderful impact he had on his students and we will never forget him! He was my favorite teacher of all time. May The Lord comfort the family during this difficult time.
