Virginia Burnette Obituary

BURNETTE, VIRGINIA LARUE - age 88 of Loudon passed away peacefully at home with her dear son Lyn nearby on Friday, March 18, 2011 after a prolonged illness. A native of Greene County, Tennessee, she attended schools locally in Cedar Creek, and then spent her senior year in high school at Frenchburg Academy in Frenchburg, Kentucky. At the age of 18, she moved to Knoxville and began attending the Fourth Presbyterian Church, where she met her future husband, Rex Burnette, and they married in 1941. She attended Knoxville Business College, after which she began a long career with TVA, and later the City of Loudon. She and Rex moved to Loudon in 1950, where they raised four sons, Kyle, Terry, Lyn, and Kim. Virginia was a faithful member of the Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she maintained a nearly 50 year Sunday School perfect attendance record, was active in the Women's Circle, sang and performed in the church choir and handbell choir. In later years, she, Rex, and several of their friends formed a band called the Satellites (they were out of this world) and performed musical and comedy routines for other senior groups all over East Tennessee. After 51 years of marriage, Rex passed away in 1992 from complications of a stroke. She is survived by her sister, Selma Owen of Nashville; sons; Kyle Burnette and late wife, Donna Wilcox Burnette, Terry Burnette and wife, Susan, Lyn Burnette, Kim Burnette and wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren: Royal Sampson and husband, Randall, Brandy Millsaps and husband, Marty, Crystal Burnette, Jackie Burnette and Anna-Lise Burnette; great grandchildren: Kila, Aaron, Kalli, Khloe and Klaire Sampson, Reece and Reagan Millsaps; step-grandchildren: Danielle Santos and husband, Josh, Tiana Lawson and husband, Aaron; step-great grandchildren: Evan and Ethan Santos, Kristiana, Zachary and Liam Lawson. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, March 20th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Family and friends will gather at Click Funeral Home by 9:30 Monday morning and proceed to Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens for graveside services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Nick Coker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
