Barbara Pate, age 89, of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully in her sleep at Tennova Hospice after suffering with extreme pain for the past 7 years due to Ramsey-Hunt Syndrome, but is now pain free with the Lord. Lifelong member of Lonsdale Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and pianist.

Preceded in death by mother, Bessie Butcher Hall; sister Madeline Hall West and her son Jim; grandfather Daniel Maynard (Pa) Butcher and aunt Cleo Butcher Mashburn. Survived by childhood sweetheart and husband of 68 years Charles Pate. Also survived by nephew Charles West and son Nathan West; special cousin Robert E. Mashburn, II, wife Jean and a number of other cousins and friends. She graduated from Rule High School, 1946. Worked at Kresses, S&W Cafeteria and Knox Porcelain Plant. She married and resided in Knoxville, TN, then Lubbock, TX while Charles was in service. Returned to Knoxville prior to moving to Rochester, NY where she and Charles started the first Southern Baptist Church. Relocated to Cincinnati, OH, then Chattanooga, TN, then Knoxville, TN for career changes with Charles. Resided in Knoxville with Charles for the last 35 years.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday December 7, 2015, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Wayne Roach officiating and eulogy by Mr. Jack Williams. The family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Tuesday December 8, 2015, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church (2614 Merchant Dr, Knoxville, TN 37912). Online obituary may be viewed and condolences extended at www.rosemortuary.com.

Hi Charles, I don't know if you remember me or not,I was a young teen when I met you and Barbara at the nursing home,I cared for my grandmother along with my mother,Bessie Milligan,,I loved you both and have fond memories of our times,,so sorry to hear about Barbara,,my mother passed away in 2009,I pray you are doing ok,,and know I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers!

Our prayers are with Charles and family during this time. Charles and Barbara Pate have been part of the Lonsdale Baptist Church community for decades and have been an inspiration to hundreds of people. We have always considered them as part of that family.
