Edna Evans Obituary

Edna Evans

Knoxville, TN

Edna Marjean Evans, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Friday, August 26, 2016, at the age of 87. Marjean lived a wonderful and successful life. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Knoxville in 1948 with her husband Ernie and a six week old baby boy. She and Ernie raised three sons and a daughter in West Knoxville. Marjean lived at the family home on Crosby Road for 60 years, where some dear friends still live today. Once her children were through school, Marjean went to work full time at the University of Tennessee in the campus book store, and later served as the Secretary to the Dean in the College of Civil Engineering, where she worked for almost 25 years. Marjean was a wonderful cook and her family loved Sunday dinner-day at her house, where she served the best fried okra and the most tender roast beef ever. She loved to play cards and taught her children and grandchildren to play Rook. They all participated is Rook tournaments while on their annual Evans family vacation. Marjean was a competitive card player and hated to lose! She was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church Bearden. At the time of her death Marjean was a resident of Echo Ridge retirement community where she made many new friends.

Marjean was preceded in death by her parents, M.L and Edna Turner; her brother, Charles Turner; and her husband Ernie Evans. She is survived by her children, Ray (Scarlett), Dwaine (Robin), Kathy (Daniel) and Ron (Debra); grandchildren, Heather, Matthew (Melissa), Evyn (Jaren), Allison, Ashley (Steve), and Rachel; and a great-grandson, Kaiden. Marjean and Ernie created a wonderful and close family and she will truly be missed.

A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 31st, at the Highland Memorial Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at their convenience at Rose Mortuary Mann Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Habitat for Humanity. We are so sad to hear of Marjean's passing. She and Ernie were second parents to all of us kids that were fortunate to grow up in Hollywood Hills. Their house was happy, busy and one where all were welcome. Everyone in my family has wonderful memories of the kindness and compassion they so freely gave to us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as we all morn the passing of this wonderful southern lady.
