Dear Nancy and family, I was so sorry we couldn't get up there to attend Al's memorial service. However we were with you in thought and prayer.
I have been reading the memorials from Al's former students and know that Al has become their "Mr Whetsell"! He was the teacher who meant so much to our class and we all loved him dearly. He was always very kind and understanding and I see this in the messages to you from Al's students. So please be comforted in the fact that Al will live on in his students as an example of kindness and understanding. We will miss Al..With love in Christ, Geri Cantrell Hager and the entire Class of Selah High Class of '56

NANCY, I WAS HEARTSICK TO HEAR OF AL'S PASSING. I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT THIS IS FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN. IT SIMPLY HURTS. THE COMFORT OF KNOWING HOW MUCH AL EXEMPLIFIED WHAT CHRIST WANTS US TO BE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU. IT HAS BEEN FIFTEEN YEARS SINCE I LOST MY JERRY AND I KNOW THE PAIN AND LONELINESS OF IT BUT ALSO THE JOY OF KNOWING WHAT A GREAT TIME HE IS HAVING IN HEAVEN WITH THOSE HE LOVES. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. LOVE GAIL JONES

Nancy & Family,
We know that Al is with the Lord; and his faith and life exemplified a Christian walk. However, we still feel the pain that must be magnified in you and your children. We intend to get to the service, but there may be some weather issues in our area. May Christ give you and your family peace and comfort beyond understanding.

Al was great mentor and inspiration to me personally. I enjoyed the few times I spent with he and his family while growing up in Ellensburg. I thought he was an outstanding principal and good man- Jay Johnson (Boston)

Dear Nancy and family,
I have been thinking about you all in this sad time. Al was so wonderful to me when I was an exchange student with Rotary. He is someone I admired very much for his service to the Ellensburg community and the Presbyterian Church. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. With love, Alisa Lundy Peterson and family

Dear Nancy and Family-
I am so saddened at the sudden loss of the most important man in your lives. I knew him in a professional manner both as the parent to you boys as students, and as an administrator while I was teaching. I can honestly say he was the kindest gentleman I have ever worked with and had the pleasure of knowing. My last lengthy conversation with Al was, of course, not about education but about our mutual love of fishing! We are all blessed to have known him.

Moss Family-I was shocked and saddened by your loss.I was a student at EHS during Al's years there but got to know him much better the last few years through his dedicated work as a KVCH board member.KVCH's loss doesn't even begin to compare to yours, but losing Al is a tremendous loss for KVCH.The board will find a replacement but no one can ever truly replace Al and the tireless contributions he made to our local hospital district. He truly did live the Rotary motto. He will be greatly missed by many of us at KVCH.Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Nancy and family, Ron and I are saddened by Al's unexpected passing. We are so glad to have spent the time with him and you durng these first years of Kristin and Mark's marriage. It has been a joy to share the births of our grandchildren with the two of you. We are so proud of Kristin and love her as though she is one of ours. Kristin has always spoken with such love and pride of both of you. We have enjoyed listening to the stories of Al, you, Kristin and her brothers fishing together and the vacations, boating and other great times spent as a child with wonderful, loving, and caring parents. Al was one of the kindest people I have known. We will miss him. Mikki

Dear Nancy and family, Stella and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Al's death. Although we worked together as school administrators for a relatively short time, I always admired his ability to work through issues and remain a positive and supportive influence on those around him. The education profession needs many more men like Al. I'm glad I knew him.

This is how I will always remember Al.

Dear Nancy and family,
Words cannot express the sadness I feel over Al's passing. Having just seen him again at our Davis High 45th class reunion, he was the same, wonderful man that we all remember & loved from high school days. He so very much touched us as a mentor and leader whom we all looked up to. My deepest sympathies & prayers are with you.

Dear Nancy and Family, I was so shocked and saddened by the news. I was in the class of '65 at Davis and have many fond memories of him. He also attended our class reunion this October and he looked so healthy and happy. Your family will be in my prayers.

Dear Nancy & family,
Al was my favorite teacher at Davis High School in Yakima. He chose me to be on the girls tennis team, even though I had never played tennis, and taught me the game. He honored our class with his presence at both our 40th and 45th class reunions. Al was part of the Davis High School class of '65! God used Al to touch the lives of many people, and I cherish those memories! (If I can figure out how to attach this photo, it was taken on Oct. 2, 2010 at the Davis High School Class of '65 reunion in Yakima. He is standing with one of our classmates, Kathy Martinson.)

Dear Family,
Principal Moss was an extraordinary man. Though most high school principals are feared, Mr. Moss was always kind and concerned about the well being of his students. I only knew him for a short time, but he was a positive influence in my life.He will be missed. Love and Blessings to you all. I hope you will have Peace in your heart this holiday season.

Dear Nancy, Robert, Gary, and Kristen,
I was so sad to hear of Al's passing - he's the kind of person you think will always be there. I have so many memories - going to your house on New Year's Day for Bowl Games and a great meal, his leadership at Ellensburg High School (through a student's eyes!), seeing him and the rest of you at church every Sunday, and later your consistent support of us during our Wycliffe years.
Thank you to Al and the rest of you for the very important role you have played in my life.
May God bless and strengthen each of you, Christie (Meekhof) Hand

Nancy and Family, My heart gos out you. Al was a wonderful man , I fished with Al on many occassions at Rock Ford Creek. Although Al loved to talk fishing the conversation always involved Nancy and family. It was easy to realize that Al loved fishing but fishing was not his first love. I consider my life blessed and far richer for knowing Al. If ther is a spring creek full of fish in heaven Al will find it and be waiting for his loved ones to join him, I will miss Al here on earth, but I know where I can find him when my time comes.

Nancy and family,
I share your grief for the passing of your husband/father. It was my great fortune to work with Al in so many capacities in the Ellensburg School District, and to be your neighbor. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit with Al this summer during Jazz in the Valley. Warmest regards, Larry Almberg

Dear Nancy and family,
I was shocked and heartbroken to learn of Al's passing.
Al was alway a gentleman and a gentle-man.
I was in school with Al and we graduated together in 1956 from Selah High School. I will always remember his quiet ways and his enduring smile. I am so very sorry for this tremendous loss to you and our class of '56.
