Nancy Armistead Obituary

Armistead, Nancy Scudder April 2, 1921 - May 17, 2012 Nancy Scudder Armistead was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Isabelle Capen Scudder and John Anderson Scudder. She attended Mary Institute School and made her debut in 1940 at the St. Louis Veiled Prophet Ball. Nancy participated in a variety of charitable volunteer activities through the Junior League, and was a nurse's aide during WWII. In 1944, Nancy married John Irving Armistead, and in 1953 they moved to Los Angeles where they lived in Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, and Santa Monica over the years. She continued her volunteer activities including working with Meals-on-Wheels and St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica. Nancy enjoyed traveling and was a member of The Beach Club in Santa Monica where she enjoyed her many friendships and playing paddle tennis. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, and her older sister, Jane Sommer. She is survived by her son, John Armistead of Los Angeles and his wife, Amy, and daughters Alexis and Amanda; her daughter, Alice Kay Smalarz of Agoura Hills and her husband, Tony; and by her sister, Elizabeth Howe of Palm Beach and St Louis; A memorial service will be held at a later date in Santa Monica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice in Nancy's name.
