Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away after battling lung cancer with remarkable courage and grace. A Los Angeles native and son of Greek immigrants, John grew up working hard and enjoying life. After graduating from Poly High School, he entered the Army and served in Iceland during World War II. Back from the war, John met and married Martha Tavoularis and founded Callas Meat Company with brothers Nick and Jim, where he worked until retirement 26 years ago. John and Martha celebrated 60 years of marriage last January surrounded by their children and grandchildren. After his family, John's great loves were the game of golf and all of the friends he met along the way. He so enjoyed his weekly golf games with the Greek Army golf club, and the camaraderie that came with those days.

John lived a rich and full life, usually doing things his own way, on his own terms and charming everyone he met up until the end. He leaves behind his wife Martha, sons Greg (Jackie) and Steve (Tina), and daughter Tricia (Jim) O'Donnell, grandchildren Adriana (Aki) Vourakis, Joanna, Erica (James) Schwalm, Nicholas and Jane, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his dear son John, who he missed so much. We know you are on your way to meet him, Dad. May God bless you and protect you on the journey to that great reunion.

A Trisagion service will be held on Monday, December 13, at 7 p.m. at Bastian and Perrott Mortuary located at 18728 Parthenia St., Northridge 91324. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at 9501 Balboa Blvd., Northridge 91325. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saint Sophia Foundation Building Fund at 1324 So. Normandie Ave., LA 90006; or, to Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
