Frances KNIGHT

KNIGHT, Frances Died of natural causes on June 8, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Jackie Leebody, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Alfred Thomas Knight and her brother, Carl Samaras who was lost at sea while serving in the United States Navy during World War II. Frances was born in the village of Olymbiada, Greece in 1914, the oldest child of Sam and Shana Samaras. She married Alfred Knight on June 14, 1932. Soon after, they bought a home on the canals in Venice, California where she had lived for the past 71 years with her little dogs by her side. Frances was a long time member of the Episcopal Church in Venice and Mar Vista. She especially enjoyed organizing and cooking for the monthly church breakfasts. She was known for her excellent dishes and mouth watering treats.
Frances was an accomplished knitter and for many years volunteered her time to the Santa Monica Hospital, knitting baby booties and caps for the newborns. She also was an avid supporter of Friends of Animals of West Los Angeles. "Flowie" is survived by her son Richard Knight (wife Shelley) and daughter Jackie Leebody; two grandsons Kevin Knight and Geoffrey Knight; and her five great-grandchildren, Kyle Knight, Lucas Knight, Kelsey Knight, Lindsay Knight, and Hana Boxberger; and cousins, Kostas Samaras in Olymbiada and Simeon Antoniou in Attiki, Greece. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations will be welcomed at Friends of Animals, 2336 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
