Michael Morin Obituary
MORIN , Michael D.
(55), a lover of family, friends and life, passed away peacefully at his home of June 23, 2007, surrounded by Karen, his wife and his children Nick, Casey and Marissa.
To his professional colleagues and clients, Michael was one of Los Angeles' top civil litigators. His successful legal career spanned the period from his early years in Washington, DC as a United States Department of Justice trial attorney to the formation of his own highly regarded boutique trial law firm-Margolis & Morin - in downtown Los Angeles. Michael won his cases the old-fashioned way - through meticulous attention to detail and sheer intellectual might.
To his legion of friends, Michael was someone special - the kind of person that you might meet once in your life. He was blessed with a lightening fast wit, a wonderful sense of irony and context, and boundless compassion for the well-being of his friends. Michael made an extraordinary number of close friends as he moved through life, acquaintances from his years coaching his children's teams in soccer and baseball, writers and others who followed their dreams in Alaska (one of Michael's favorite places on earth), teachers in Thailand and his neighbors in Studio City.
Michael lived life large - his special love was music: specifically Rock. His was one of the largest Rock collections imaginable, and Michael spent countless hours burning special compilations for friends and recalling Rock concerts he attended from the Grateful Dead in the 60's to the Rolling Stones in 2006. Michael liked nothing more than turning a friend on to a unique sound by an unknown band.
But Michael saved the largest part of his heart for his family. Karen, Nick, Casey and Marissa were the most important people in his life. His love for Karen was deep and unconditional; they were soul mates who now are linked together forever. His children were the light of his life - he delighted in every accomplishment and anguished at every setback - he was their mentor, their athletic coach, their guide and their best friend and he was so proud of each one of them.
Michael was a 1975 graduate of Hampshire College and was Editor-in-Chief of the International Law Journal of the California Western School of Law from which he graduated cum laude in 1981. He was a member of the Sherman Oaks Little League Board and at the time of his passing was a member of the Board of Directors of WeSpark in Sherman Oaks, CA.
Michael is survived by Karen, Nick, Casey, Marissa, his parents Bobby and Audrey Morin and his sisters Patricia, Cathy and Amy.
