Alan Braun Obituary

Braun, Alan M.
August 4, 1948 - October 3, 2010
Alan M. Braun, 62, a local businessman, died October 3 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica.
He is survived by the love of his life Rhoda Levi, his mother Renee Braun, siblings Marc and Renny and loving extended family and friends.
Alan was born on August 4, 1948 in New York City and moved to Santa Monica in 1970 where he founded Brauns Sport World, one of the first businesses to jumpstart the retail community on Montana Ave. He was known as the "Mayor of Montana Ave" and was greatly respected by the community.
Alan was an avid cycling enthusiast, a charitable person and "mensch". He loved spending time with his devoted cat Barney and always brought a smile to peoples faces. Forever in our hearts, he will be deeply missed.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 6 at noon at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park Hollywood Hills.

Uncle Al - We all just heard the news - the middletons - the borquez family and extended family. Rhoda we love you and miss you!

We are so saddened and shocked by the news but seeing your face makes us all smile again. From you big heart, your incredible pool parties, bannana daquris and dishwashing soap thrown in the pool to make a huge bubble bath - you were a crazy man who we all loved! You did nothing but make us laugh every time we saw you - from your hilarious stories about the locals to the boring famous people - we loved each one because your stories were like a funny book-There will never be another UNCLE AL :)

You gave me my first retail job @ 16 and your the reason i am still a slave to retail ------ All of our love goes to your mom, marc and renny along with rhoda. You will be missed - tonight i shed a tear.

Alan, I only met you one time when you were at a restaurant with your beloved Rhoda. I do know how special of a person you were from all Rhoda shared with me through the years. Rest In Peace, Alan.

Dear Alan...Working at Braun's for 18 years was an experience I will never forget. You were a father, mentor and a friend to me over the years. Your ceremony was beautiful with wonderful eulogies from friends and family. I was lucky to be a part of your life and to know you and your family and friends. I wish I could have been there for you and for that, I am truly sorry. You were blessed with wonderful friends and family. RIP my friend. Love...Fred

Lived on 18th and Montana for 13 years (1985-), and bought/visited Alan at 'Brauns' over the years, as I played tennis for many years.. He was always sweet and nice, and seemed to enjoy his life. He had that fierce motorcycle, too! Fred and Renny were working there, as well, and were always friendly..My condolences to his family.
Sincerely, Nadine (Kaplan)Buck

Alan always had time to say hello, give you a kind word and a whimsical smile. I chatted with him many times over the years and really liked him. He was a private guy but a really good man. I will miss seeing him driving in his beautiful cars on Montana and doing his walks. He was great guy! Mike O'Bryan
