Anna Webb Obituary

Webb, Anna Hitter
May 9, 1928 - September 17, 2011
Anna Hitter Webb was born Chana Rubinstein in Wyshkow, Poland. She was the second of four children born to Tauba and Leib Rubinstein. During World War II, the family escaped to Russia, Siberia and Uzbekistan. The family survived the war together.
In Uzbekistan Anna met and married Joseph Hitter, a fellow Polish refugee. Joseph and Anna's son, Steven, was born in a displaced persons camp in Baumberg, Germany. The new family moved to Frankfurt where their daughter Sabrina was born. The Hitter family immigrated to the United States in 1955 and settled in Los Angeles where they joined a vibrant community of Holocaust survivors.
After Joseph suffered a severe heart attack in 1974, Anna started a jewelry import business. Anna worked diligently and cared for her husband until his death three years later. Anna's company, AH Jewelry Imports became a multi-million dollar corporation and one of the largest importers of Italian gold jewelry on the west coast.
In 1993, Anna married fellow Holocaust survivor Max Webb and they dedicated themselves to tikkun olam (healing the world). Anna Hitter Webb received many awards and two honorary doctorates, from Bar-Ilan University and Tel Aviv University for her philanthropic works.
Anna Hitter Webb is survived by her husband Max Webb, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Abraham Rubinstein and her sister Renee Petlak and her husband Charles. Anna will always be cherished by her children: Sabrina Silvers and Ethie and Steve Hitter. Anna's memory will be kept alive by her grandchildren: Tiana Silvers and Joslyn Hitter.
Her life has been shaped both by struggle and by unfailing devotion to family.
Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park, Tuesday, September 20th at 12 PM.
