Betty LOVEJOY Obituary

LOVEJOY, Betty Lou (Behrman) Betty Lou (84) a 36 year resident of San Clemente, passed away peacefully in her home, Thursday, October 21, 2010 with her loving husband Richard and son David by her side. Her lively, determined spirit, quick wit, grace and beautiful smile enchanted everyone who knew her. She was a past president and Life member of the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley where she wrote over 80 grants funding philanthropic projects for the families in her community. She engaged in a life long passion for voluntary community service as varied as being a PTA president, a driver for the blind and more recently, spending over fifteen years tutoring the special needs students in her local elementary school. She was an avid boater for over forty years, maintaining memberships in the Catalina Island Yacht Club and the Dana West Yacht Club. Her talents included being a skilled bagpipe player as well as being highly regarded for her tap dancing skills. Betty Lou was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma May 14, 1926. At age four she worked with Mickey Rooney in the Mickey McGuire Comedies at the Hal Roach Studios for one year. In 1940 she moved to Hollywood, California with her parents where she attended Hollywood High School and UCLA. There she met the love of her life, her surviving husband of 63 years Richard Forest Lovejoy. Betty Lou is survived by her children David R. Lovejoy, Luann Lovejoy Furman, four beautiful grandchildren of whom she was very proud and one cherished great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, Betty Lou would have preferred that donations be made to the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley, P.O. Box 133, San Juan Capistrano CA 92693. Please note on the bottom of the check that the donation should be directed to the Camp Pendleton Scholarship Fund.

I was just thinking of Betty Lou yesterday as I was polishing a charished gift from her, a lemon drops bowl with a rim of silver, just like the one that she and Richard had in La Canada. I miss the Lovejoys and my parents. What a wonderful generation they were.

Betty Lou had a wonderful smile. I loved that she made Richard so happy. I am blessed to have been given a few of her Saint John knit outfits to wear. They make me feel special. She is missed. Vicki

Betty Lou was my second mother and an inspirational role model. How lucky I was to have her in my life. I will carry vivid, wonderful memories over my lifetime of her laughter, her incredible wit, lemon drops, Trix, bottles of milk on the front porch, her fabulous tap dancing, her generosity and love. What a gift. All my love to Richard, Luann and David and the extended family. We send you a warm, strong hug. Laurie and Andrea
