Beverly MIRMAN Obituary

MIRMAN, Beverly Marmour Beverly Marmour Mirman passed away on November 17, 2010, soon after her 88th birthday. That birthday was spent as was her entire life, surrounded by family - Norman, her loving husband of 67 years; daughter Leslie and son Alan. Beverly was born in Brooklyn, New York, one of three sisters. After growing up in New York, becoming a war bride and serving as a "Gray Lady" supporting our troops during WWII, Beverly moved west after the War, and settled in Los Angeles with husband Norman. Soon after arriving in California they started their family, and in 1962, she supplied the idea, inspiration and administrative talent as she and Norman founded the Mirman School for Gifted Children, which received her love and nurture throughout its first (almost) 50 years. Her family thrived, and the School thrived, both in such large part due to her personal, warm and human attention to detail, to substance and to spirit. Beverly was a powerful presence, never shy about expressing her opinion. Her loving nature and kind-heartedness trumped all.
Beverly is survived by husband Norman (age 91); daughter Leslie (and Haim) Geffen; son Alan (and Nancy) Mirman; five loving grandchildren - Talia, Yoni, Aaron, Zack and Jesse; and sister Marian Kaufman with whom she was very close. Beverly Mirman lived a long, full and productive life. In addition to her family, generations of Mirman School families mourn her passing. In the words of her beloved late sister Florence "we were much better for having known you." A family service is planned for Sunday and a memorial service will be held at Mirman School at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beverly Mirman Memorial Fund at Mirman School (www.mirman.org)

I remember fondly the mornings where I use to jump from the car and run onto the Mirman campus. As I entered the gates, I often crossed paths with Mrs. Mirman, and she would offer a kind word of encouragement that just brightened my day. As the years went by until I left Mirman, I would continue to have small daily chats with Mrs. Mirman, discussing everything from an upcoming math test to matters of life outside the classroom. I will never forget the support and compassion she shared with me daily. Now, years later, as I prepare to graduate from MIT, I know that I will carry her kind words in my heart and strive to encourage others as she encouraged me. I send all of my love and prayers to Mr. Mirman and the rest of the Mirman family.

My time at the Mirman School was my one of favorite learning experiences.I know for sure that the time spent at Mirman helped mold me into the person I am today. I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to get to know Mrs. Mirman during my five years there. I am so grateful for the gift she provided me. The lessons I learned have helped me to become a hard-working student at MIT. Mrs. Mirman's legacy will not be forgotten.

As an employee of Mirman School I got to experience the legacy of Mrs. Mirman. The passion that she and her husband shared for their students was seen by their many visits to the school where they sat out in the sun and watched the many children who are benefiting from their creation.
Mrs. Mirman will be missed.
