Cynthia Szigeti Obituary

Cynthia Carol Szigeti (66) actor, director, writer, teacher, improviser, passed on August 10, 2016, at her home in Los Angeles, California. An alumna of Fairfax High School and educated at UC Berkeley and UC Los Angeles, Cynthia went on to work and teach at The Groundlings, The Acme Theater and The Comedy Store Players among others. Her impassioned teaching helped launch the careers of hundreds of actors and writers including some celebrities. An actress herself, Cynthia's performances graced American TV, film and stage for over forty years. Because she insisted there not be a memorial unless she could write and direct it herself, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Motion Picture & Television Fund ---mptf.com. Cynthia is survived by her niece Samantha, sister-in-law Melinda and a grateful Hollywood comedy community.

Cynthia! Star performer with Theater Of Man in "After Eurycide," our take on gender role expectation; the "Mole" in "The Bear's Bash," our summer extravaganza for kids, free in San Francisco's Parks. You brougth joy, and laughter and recognition to so many people, and gladdened their hearts with your presence. May you go lightly wherever you are!

Love,

Cecile

This is such terrible news....My wife Laura and I both knew Cynthia from UCLA...She was a kind, wonderful person...Her talent had no limit as an actor, director and a teacher. We were blessed to have known her...Laura and James Gleason

I loved seeing her at parties ... the queen sitting on her throne ... surrounded by amazingly beautiful people.

For the life of me, I don't know why she liked me so much. I know why I liked/loved her, as do all of you.

We rarely saw each other ... sometimes decades would pass ... but no matter how much time passed, she always remembered my name and greeted me with love and warmth. Needless to say I lit up around her ... she would not have accepted less. I won't be missing her, because I expect her to be around always.

Cynthia was a supremely talented performer, teacher and all around fine human being. She was an incredibly important part of the growth of so many of us Groundlings as improvisors, writers, actors and most fo all as people. Hearing her wonderful laugh when you were on stage, meant you were really onto something. Love and condolences to Cynthia's many loved ones.

She was an inspiration to me at the Groundlings and such a creative catalyst for anyone who loves to laugh and has joy in their heart! She will be missed.

She was an amazing lady and many of her students, myself included, affectionately called her Mama. I will miss her infectious spirit, her unmistakable laugh, and the way her face would light up when she saw my children. The last words she ever said to my 4 year old son were, "Louis, I love you more than you'll ever know." I miss you Mama. I'm glad you're at peace.
