Delores BERG Obituary
BERG, Delores On November 18, 2010 Delores Berg, beloved wife of fifty-seven years of Roger Berg, passed away after a lengthy illness. (After Delores' first date with Roger, she told her brother Harold and sister-in-law Shirley, she had met the man she was going to marry.) Delores was an accomplished artist and received many awards for her sculptures and collages. But her greatest reward is what she gave to others, which was her laughter and joy that she brought to many lives. Delores' greatest passion was her family and friends. Delores was a valued volunteer at the L.A. County Museum of Art for over thirty-seven years serving in many capacities, for which she received a certificate of excellence from the Museum Service Council, Department of Indian Art. Of special interest to her was the "Evening for Educators" which handled documentation for education sent to the teachers of Los Angeles. She was also an active benefactor to the L.A. County Museum of Art, as well as to U.C.L.A. Chancellor's Group, Ahmanson Theatre Group, U.C.L.A. Athletic Organizations, and the National Council of Jewish Women.
Delores was also honored as a "treasured volunteer" by Castle Heights Elementary School to which she brought art in the form of "hands on learning" and through her organization "ABC" (Art Bridges Culture) for which she received an additional award, a "Certificate of Appreciation" from Palms Elementary School (at which her daughter Karen is a teacher of some 27 years). In addition, she was also an active benefactor of the Wonder of Reading Library at Palms Elementary School. Delores' teaching of art in the elementary schools culminated in receiving from the President of the U.S.A. the highly regarded "Volunteer Service Award." Particular joy came to Delores in her eminent psychologist daughter Beverly receiving a doctorate in the "Philosophy of Psychology," the first doctor in the family. She was also very instrumental in supporting Karen in the completion of her Masters Degree in Educational Administration. Delores is survived by her husband Roger, daughters Karen Marks and Beverly Berg Wry, sons-in-law Sandy Marks and Brian Wry, grandchildren Daniel Marks and his wife Liron, Jordan Marks, Ruby Wry, Carlos Hernandez (wife Alicia) and Leslie; the last two are the children of her beloved household manager of thirty years, Blanca Estela Pena. Additional family are sisters Mir Schlosberg and Lilli Gardner (husband Harold) and brother Harold (wife Shirley) as well as the families of her many nieces and nephews. Charitable contributions in her honor may be sent to the donor's choice of charity - although Delores was particularly taken by the "Smile Train" charity where all those involved including doctors, are not paid in restoring the disastrous effect of "cleft palates" in children throughout the world. Her other favored charities were Defenders of Wildlife, UNICEF, Smithsonian Institute, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, National Organization for Women, KCET, Program for Torture Victims and the Maple Counseling Center, among many other needy organizations locally, nationally and world-wide. The memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 21, 12:00 p.m., at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the Bing Theatre located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, 90036. Valet parking provided.
