Edmund Auer Obituary

Auer, Edmund Robert
January 19, 1932 - November 13, 2010
Edmund Robert Auer passed away peacefully in Highland Mills, NY after a stoic battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife, Peggy. Survivors include his 10 children, daughters, Mary Pat (Gene), Carolyn, Jeanne (Rob), Molly (Brenden) and sons, Stephen (Sandi), Bill (Linda), Joe (Kim), Dan (Sue), Ted (Mimi), Jim (Christine) and 25 grandchildren.
Raised in Pelham, NY, Ed attended Iona Prep and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where Ed was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity-which bestowed its prestigious Significant Sig Award upon Ed after an uncommonly distinguished business career.
Ed's career began at Otis Elevator, and then CBS, Inc. in 1960. Ed remained with CBS for more than 25 years, holding numerous executive positions including Treasurer and also President of CBS Software. In 1987, Ed combined his executive leadership skills with the highly creative team at the upstart Bay Area company Broderbund Software, helping take Broderbund public with great success. Ed retired from Broderbund in 1995, having held the title of President and COO.
In addition to his distinguished professional career, Ed served on the Pelham Board of Education, the Board of the Pelham Country Club, and was also a Board Trustee at the College of New Rochelle, and later at Dominican University in San Rafael, CA.
Certainly, one of Ed's greatest legacies will be the Auer Family Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that Ed founded in 1993. The Foundation is currently run by Ed's children and grandchildren, a dream come true for Ed as he hoped that the Foundation would kindle local volunteerism and charitable awareness amongst his family - by all measures, yet another success.
His leadership, compassion, and keen sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Patrick's Church, Highland Mills, NY. Burial will follow in Cemetery of The Highlands, Highland Mills, NY.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Auer Family Foundation, 21360 Deering Court, Canoga Park CA 91304.

Dear Auer Family: I know I am part of the Auer family. I know we all dearly miss Pap, so I decided to write about him, I loved the way he would play his ukelale and always sing in church and most importantly hold me, and everyone elses hand while saying the 'Our Father' in church. Let Papas kind heart and great sprit tell us all to help people and be the best you can be.
With love,
Jenna

To our beloved Sister- In -Law/Aunt Molly and the Auer family:
What a wonderful legacy your father has left. Your family has so much to be thankful for and having met most of you over the years, we can only say that 'Ed & Peggy' shared a rich life that bestowed many gifts on everyone that knew them. Their love for each other, their love for their children, their love for their grandchidren, as well as their charitable generosity are 'gifts' that will live on from generation to generation. It has been an honor to know them. All of our sympathies and condolences at this time of sadness. All of our best wishes for a deep appreciation of the wonderful legacies of both of your parents. May they rest in peace in the glory of God.
With love, respect, and admiration-
The Rogers-Smalley Family of Peter, Laurie, Bryan, Craig, Alaina & Sal.

Dear Auer Family: Our common root is the farm in Randegg Germany to which both Ed and I made pilgrimages in the 1990’s

Ed and I 'discovered' each other on the Internet when I had Googled 'Auer + Randegg. His note to me last January said: "Yes, Curt, we're definitely related! Your Ernestine was the older sister of my paternal grandfather, Jacob Auer," started a delightful but all-too-brief correspondence. ‘My Ernestine’ was my Mother’s Mother Mother.

Last May, I enjoyed a most pleasant visit with Ed, Peggy and their Highland Mills family.

While I won't presume to measure my sense of loss within the context of Ed’s loving family, but I have, indeed, lost a contemporary who had phenomenal knowledge of our common family and with whom I was looking forward to a growing relationship.

I hope that someone, in the Ed’s Family, will carry on Ed’s interest and stay in touch with me.
