Elizabeth Condon Obituary

Condon, Elizabeth ``Betty" of Los Angeles, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Sept. 4, 2001, following a long illness. She was 78. Born May 19, 1923, in Monett, Missouri, she studied theatre under Maude Adams at Stephens College and at the Univ. of Missouri, where she was discovered by a Warner Bros. talent scout in her performance in ``The Man Who Came To Dinner." She was offered a screen test and was signed as a ``Goldwyn Girl," appearing in several movies. She also modeled professionally in Hollywood and New York. In 1949 she married Jerry Seelen a Hollywood writer for Milton Berle, Danny Thomas and other notable stars of the era. In 1958 she married Edward Condon, CEO with Associated Dry Goods; they resided in Cincinnati, Buffalo and Baltimore until retiring to Los Angeles in 1981. Edward preceded her in death in 1999. Surviving are her 2 children, Vigee Seelen Droesch (Tom), of Darien, CT, and Jerry Seelen (Johanna) of Hingham, MA; 6 grandchildren, Audrey, Mary, Leila Droesch, and Nathaniel, Nicholas, Charlotte Seelen; 3 step children, Linda Madara (Bill), Bill (Deanna), Barbara Earle, 6 step grandchildren and 8 great step grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers Ben (Marge) and Viga Hall (Jane) and sister, Mary Cross, 5 nephews and 3 nieces. She was a patron of the arts, a member of the National Arts Society, and active in various charities including the Orphanage Guild. The Condons were also members of the Los Angeles Country Club. Her interment was in Monett, MO, on Sept. 8. A memorial service will be held in Los Angeles; details to be announced. Memorials may be made to the Orphanage Guild.
