Justin Gershuny Obituary

Gershuny, Justin Joshua
February 11, 1927 - November 8, 2009
Justin Joshua Gershuny, born February 11, 1927, died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills, CA on November 8, 2009. He lived a healthy, active and full life and is survived by his sister, Betty Joy Denitz, his niece Doreen Denitz Garcia (Nicolas), his nephew Frederick B. Denitz (Jena), and six loving great-nieces and great-nephews.
Justin was born and raised in Los Angeles. As a young man, he graduated from Los Angeles High School and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He proceeded to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from UC Berkeley and in 1953, his Master of Science degree in construction engineering from MIT. He worked as a senior architect for such companies as WWCOT Architecture of Santa Monica and O'Leary Terasawa Partners of Los Angeles. He was a member of American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Justin also used his knowledge and talents as an architect on several museum restoration projects and was a founder of the Heritage Square Society, where he served on the Board of Directors from 1985. He was a proud and active member of Wilshire Boulevard Temple for over 50 years. In recent years, he enjoyed watercolor painting, producing beautiful works of art.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the MIT School of Engineering, the UC Berkeley School of Environmental Design, or the Heritage Square Society of Los Angeles.

So, so sad.

Justin will stay in my heart with sweet memories of my stays in LA with his sister Betty.

My thoughts go to his family especially to my "American aunt" Betty.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Justin's unexpected passing. Justin was a wonderful gentleman of great intelligence, kindness, and compassion. And he had a sly sense of humor. We treasure the limited time we spent with him over the years and consider ourselves lucky to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Betty, Doreen, Fred, and their families. I couldn't have been more shocked and saddened when I read the news of Justin's passing. He was a friend of Heritage Square from the very beginning and I could always count on him for whatever was needed . I'm glad I was able to see him when I was reunited with some of the Heritage Square founders a few years ago. They didn't come any better than our friend Justin. I, for one, will miss him and extended my heartfelt condolences to members of his family.

Justin was a great friend to Heritage Square Museum. In the five years I've been with the museum, I think I can remember him ever missing, maybe, one or two meetings. He was a thoughtful, thorough, caring man and will be missed.

We are very sad to hear about Justin's passing. Whenever we went to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, we would look for him and Betty. He was always ready to give me a hug. He was such a sweet man. We will miss you.
