Kazue Kudo Obituary

September 12, 1926 - October 9, 2017 Kazue Kudo passed away peacefully on October 9, 2017, surrounded by family. She was 91. Ms. Kudo, or Madam Kudo as she was known professionally, was a renowned koto musician. Her performance credits include music for films such as "Sayonara," "Tea House of the August Moon," "Tora! Tora! Tora!," "Dr. Zhivago," and "Cry for Happy," and for television programs such as "Happy Days," "Shogun," "Mission Impossible," "The Barbra Streisand Special," and "Kung Fu." She was the daughter of Mitsukazu Tosa, who was the last in a line of Japanese artists of the Tosa School of Kyoto that traces its history back over 1,000 years and whose paintings were commissioned by the Imperial Court of the Emperor of Japan. Madam Kudo is survived by her three children Richard, Jeffrey, and Gary, four grandchildren Jennifer, Brandon, Marissa, and Nickolas, and her brother Mitsuaki Tosa. A celebration of her life will be held on October 21, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., at Forest Lawn Glendale.

Madame Kazue Kudo was the best teacher I've ever had. I'll always remember the many years of koto practice and the many group concerts that she organized. She'll be missed dearly.
