LaRoi Jordan Obituary

Jordan, LaRoi H.
November 24, 1920 - October 13, 2010
LaRoi H. Jordan passed away October 13, 2010 at age 89. LaRoi entered the world on November 24, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and, at age eight, journeyed to Los Angeles with his parents.
Even as a boy, LaRoi enjoyed the outdoors and became the first Black American Eagle Scout in Los Angeles County.
LaRoi served in WW II, before embarking on his primary career, a span of 25 years with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, retiring in 1980. LaRoi believed the strength of any community lies in the values of its residents. He remained a Volunteer Citizen Block Captain with the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division and served on its Community Police Advisory Board. He was active in the 120th Street Block Club, the Inglewood Senior Citizens Center and his local Neighborhood Watch.
LaRoi possessed four widely varied hobbies. He was a charter member of the Los Angeles Normal Duplicate Bridge Club, a member of both Dudes and Dames and Guys and Dolls Square Dance Clubs, an accomplished photographer and member of the American Numismatic Society.
He is survived by two sisters, four sons, two daughters, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Wednesday November 3, 2010, 11:00 AM at The House of Winston Mortuary and Chapel, 9501 Vermont Ave, Los Angeles 90044.
