Lisa KELLY Obituary

KELLY, M.D., Lisa K. Dec. 14, 1970-Nov. 3, 2011 Lisa was taken to be with our Lord Thursday morning. She unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes. She was a very strong, remarkable woman in many diverse ways. Every endeavor she undertook she gave her full determination and wonderful spirit. Lisa graduated from San Marino, CA schools, attended the University of Notre Dame, and then graduated from the Keck School of Medicine at USC. Following residency and fellowship in the east and Midwest, she returned to Southern California and took up her most passionate and beloved role as a Neonatologist at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Her greatest gift was her love for her little patients, and she treated them with all the skill she possessed and their families with the utmost compassion. Throughout her medical career, she donated generously of her free time by going with medical groups to help people in Nicaragua, Haiti and Mongolia.
Her many attributes will be sorely missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Lisa is survived by her parents, Ray and Cindy Kelly, her brother Kevin (Megan) niece Addison, and nephew Owen, and a large extended family. Lisa, we will miss you forever. At the time of her death, Lisa was training to run a half marathon to raise funds for cancer research. This, in spite of constant pain in her left foot from cancer surgeries she had endured. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to continue her efforts to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. On line, go to "teamintraining.org" click on donate and enter Lisa Kelly. Rosary Service/Visitation will be held at Cabot and Sons, Pasadena 7:00 p.m. Thurs., November 10. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church, South Pasadena at 10:00 a.m. Fri., November 11.

I went to medical school at USC with Lisa. We had great times! I still remember sitting in the rain with her at the Coliseum during a Notre Dame-USC game (in the Irish section, no less!). She was the only other person I trusted enough to allow to drive my Porsche! I remember our road trip to wine country, where we discovered Seasmoke together before it got popular in the movie Sideways. More recently I got to cycle with her before and after her cancer surgery, and saw her sheer grit and determination. She was a kind and generous person, always friendly, and made you comfortable. She will be loved and missed.

I worked with Lisa when she first came to CHLA.She was a wonderful neonatologist and a great teacher.I worked beside her many a night when she stayed up all night taking care of a sick baby. She loved her little babies and was so good with the families.I know how much she will be missed by her CHLA FAMILY....I have since retired, but I saw on FACEBOOK how happy she was that she was back to work doing what she was meant to do.I am so sorry for her family and her little dog,she loved that little dog so much. REST IN PEACE LISA WE WILL MISS YOU.

Lisa was one of the first friends I made after transferring into our class at USC's med school at the beginning of the 3rd year clinical rotations.

Her kindness to me as 'the new kid' in school is not forgotten. She was a kind, funny, super smart friend and I wonder at her leaving the world behind so quickly -- I know that I was not the only person helped by her ready smile, warmth and willingness to step forward to a stranger, a patient, a family member or a new collegue.

Lisa was one of my daughter's wonderful neonatalogists at CHLA. I still remember one of our conversations -- her personal compassion and medical expertise really made her an amazing doctor. My sympathy goes out to her family, friends and colleagues.

Lisa, I cannot believe you are gone. It has been honor and privilege to call you a colleague & friend. I am the nurse I am today because of you. I learned so much from you and I was always impressed with your professionalism, vast knowledge, and compassion. You were my ND football buddy and I always looked forward to quarterbacking the games with you. You have left your imprint in my life and countless other lives. May you legacy be in the babies, whose lives you saved. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends, and colleagues through this most difficult time. Rest in eternal peace, Lisa. Your smile and your beautiful spirit are what will comfort me as I grieve this devastating loss.

I knew Lisa for only a few months but right away I adored her. Lisa was the person that always made you feel like you were enough. Her infectious life, her smile, her unbelievably positive attitude, were things that I so admired about her. Losing Lisa is an enormous loss to so many. In her honor, I think we all need to remember to smile and take life as it comes and keep on smiling through all of it.

Lisa and I overlapped as pediatric residents at CNMC. And again when I was afirst year NICU attending at Children's Memorial and Lisa a last year NICU fellow. I can still see her taking moonlighting calls in the NICU at CNMC on a broken leg with a smile on her face. I am so deeply saddened by the loss of your daughter. Sad for the NICU community's loss. God be with you.

Lisa and I trained together at CNMC. I was her senior resident while she was an intern. Lisa was not only personable and bubbly, but also skilled and proficient. We had so many great laughs together as we helped each other through residency. I am so saddened to hear about her passing, and I truly send my thoughts and prayers to her family. Please know that Lisa was a special person who touched the lives of all that she met. She was my friend, and I will miss her.

The news of Lisa's passing was a shock to me. I believed that she was winning her personal fight with cancer and had made some progress recently. I use two lines from one of my favorite movies (Its a wonderful life) to describe Lisa. 1st: "each person's life touches so many other lives and when they are no longer around, it leaves an awful hole". The whole left by Lisa's passing would rival the Grand Canyon. 2nd "Look daddy, Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings." Well the bells of heaven are ringing off the hook for its newest angel, Lisa Kelly. We will all miss you !! RIP and God bless her and her family and friends as we all try to deal with her passing.

Lisa was a wonderful member of our pediatric residency group at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, graduating in 2000. I was her residency director during her 3 years at CNMC, and of course knew her well. She was a shining star in our institution, a bright, enthusiastic, and wonderfully caring physician. I am fortunate to have known and worked with her, and I hope that her family and friends are consoled somewhat by knowing how positive her impact was on all of us at CNMC. I will always have the fondest of memories of Lisa.

Words can't express what a loss this is to the Kelly family and to all of her friends who loved her so much! Lisa was such a special & amazing person who never met a challenge she couldn't beat. I will miss her so much...we shared many memories together, including our cruise to Alaska this past summer. I will hold onto these memories and beautiful pictures of her, and know that I will see her again one day...

With much love,
