Lois Carney Memoriam

Carney, Lois Ann
September 4, 1932 - December 5, 2009
Unwilling to accept the finality of her passing, we resisted going forward with the obituary for Aunt Lois.
Please honor her with us on the one year anniversary of our most profound loss.
Our world has lost one of its most shining lights with the passing of Lois Carney. She left us peacefully Dec 5, 2009 in her Manhattan Beach home with family and close friends by her side.
Lois was born and spent her very early years in Highland Park, CA until the family moved to San Pedro, where she completed her elementary school, San Pedro High and Harbor Community College. During this time she also participated in synchronized swimming shows and graduated from UCLA with an elementary education credential.
Her teaching years were with LAUSD in several area schools where she used her many talents with children who has special needs. While at McBride School for the handicapped, she conceived of and participated in the implementation of a team teaching approach for her kindergarten-first grade students. This program eventually included the integration of some instruction with the adjoining elementary school. After 32 years with the district, Lois received a Merit Award for her years of service. She retired in 1988 from Westwood Elementary as a Resource Specialist.
After her retirement, she furthered her lifelong love of animals with the breeding and showing of Tonkinese cats. Here, as in everything she did, she participated with infinite energy and was known throughout the Cat Fancy not only for her championship cats, but for her kindness, helpfulness and obvious passion for this hobby and life in general.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Terence Carney, brother Thomas Carney and life partner Lillian Cutler. She is survived by her nephews Craig Carney & wife Becky, Clark Carney & wife Robin, niece Kathy Carney Neal and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Lois will be lovingly remembered by her closest friends, Maryanne Harner, Mary Ellen Hodge, Marilyn Winters and Error Jacobs, all of whom she considered not only her best friends but also her family.
Lois is greatly missed but her legacy of compassion and love will be with us always.

Lois became a part of the Cutler family in the 1950's and remained "Aunt Lois" until her death. She and Lillian inspired me to become a teacher. She was always part of our Holiday spirit and enjoyed watching the six Cutler chilren grow up. She was a light in our lives and will always be remembered.
