Max Herman Obituary

Max was born on July 1, 1914 and passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2014 just one month shy of his 100th birthday. His strong will and positive attitude was apparent to all who knew and loved him. He was married to his beloved Ida (1917-2008) for 67 years. He had an illustrious career as a trumpet player; he was first trumpet for the Bob Crosby Bobcats during the Big Band era, played in the Rudy Vallee Coast Guard Band and later was first trumpet for CBS Studios. He was an officer and then President of the Musician's Union Local 47 for 30 years. In addition, he was a music publisher. He first love was spending time with family and he loved playing golf, going to concerts and Dodger games. He is survived by his two children, Marlene Seltzer and Barry Herman (Sharon) as well as four grandchildren, Abbey (Jason) Meshekow, Allison (Chris) Tomney, Stephanie Seltzer and Michael (Dasha) Seltzer and four great-grandchildren, Katie and Zachary Tomney, Landon Seltzer and Troy and Brooke Meshekow. Funeral services will be held at Eden Memorial Park on Thursday, June 5th at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts (2250 Gloaming Way, Beverly Hills 90210).

To the Herman Children,
He always spoke highly of my father, Ray Belaire. Max played 1st trumpet in the Ray Belaire Orchestra in the 1930's. He stayed in touch with us at Local 198 Providence, RI. My sincere condolences to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
