OBITUARY
MURIEL DARBY ABBOTT, in her 101st year, passed away in Centreville, Maryland on November 30, 2010, from natural causes. She was in the care of the Hospice of Queen Anne's near her home there having moved from Cheviot Hills in 2006. Born in Los Angeles on April 20, 1910, the daughter of Joseph Darby and Nell Thompson, she and her brother, Joseph Darby, attended schools in Los Angeles. Muriel was a student at both Berkeley Hall School and Westlake School for Girls and was an active alumna of both institutions. Married in 1934 to Lenwood B. Abbott, she shared the challenges of his fifty year career in the motion picture industry that saw them travel the world to film such classics as Cleopatra, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and TORA TORA TORA. Through her life, she enjoyed regular vacations at Catalina Island, was an avid card player and golfer, and devoted herself to the education and development of her growing family. She is survived by her son, Peter Abbott and his wife, Dorothea of Centreville, MD, Grandchildren: Douglas Abbott, Jennifer Abbott, John G. Abbott, Christopher Abbott and Sarah Morgan Biss, and Great Grandchildren: Quincey Kras, Talulah Kras, Finn Apostol, and Katherine Morgan Biss. She was predeceased by her husband, Lenwood, brother, Joseph Darby, and son, Dr. Michael L. Abbott, all of Los Angeles, CA. Per her wishes, there will be no formal service. Her remains will be reunited with her loved ones in the waters off Southern California where she lived for 96 active and healthy years.
