Richard was about six months older than I. So we happened to stand in line together to get on the bus as we were not quite old enough for a driver´s license. We had not met. He was standing in line right in front of me. Looking down at my feet he said something to the effect, "Nice shoes, man!" I was wearing blue suede shoes (a la Elvis). Looking down, I saw he has wearing blue suede shoes, also. Being the age we were our feet were growing. My next pair was black suede as they were out of blue. As Richard and I then always waited together for the bus, I was concerned if he would approve of black instead of blue. Richard´s reaction, "Hey, those are really nice!" I learned that Richard was not only a very nice guy, he was really COOL, also. Over the decades I will still think of him. Really nice; really cool. (We graduated from California High School in 1961.)

After many years have passed , I still remember Rich
as one quiet well dressed class mate . I also remember
he hatted GE , and only having 10 minutes to shower &
dress . One important memory that sticks out is he
never raced around the streets in Whittier , he was
always composed and a critical thinker . I miss the lunches we had together in the quad .....

God Bless Richard , he was one of my class mates of 1958/1961 at California High School in Whirrier , Calif. . He always had the best car of our class and was the best dresser in the class . I will always remember him as being in a lot of my classes and such a good friend .

Dear Johnny and Family,
May Richard be at peace with Mom and Dad, Big John and I bet Richard will ask, hey Uncle Red can I borrow the pick up tonight? The years have passed by but our hearts are full of childhood memories of us all growing up together.
May God Bless your family
Dick, Jan, Michelle, Tracey and our Angel Lori in heaven

My husband and I were said to be Richard and Big John Mazmanian's favorite fans. We knew them since 1968 and had a few visits in more recent times, including photos. We will always remember fondly the times we spent at the drag races, witnessing the first funny car run at 220 mph, winning the Manufacturer's Meet in November of 1968 and spending time with Rich at the Hot Rod Reunion in 2008. Rest in Peace, Richard. All your lights are green now!
