Richard Montgomery Obituary

Montgomery, Richard A January 11, 1919 - June 10, 2012 Richard (Dick) Montgomery died peacefully on Sunday, June 10 in Pacific Palisades accompanied by his family. Dick was born in LadySmith, British Columbia. After graduation from the University of British Columbia, he served with distinction in the Royal Canadian Navy. Following the war, he received his PhD from Cal Tech and began a very successful career in the aerospace industry. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and active in many civic causes. Dick was greatly loved by all and respected as a gentleman. The simple dignity of his life, his many virtues, his sense of duty, the twinkle in his eye, his example as a husband and a father, his courage in war and in peace - all were aspects of his character which won him great admiration. In addition to his wife of 68 years Mary, he is survived by his sister Eleanor McBain, his six sons, Boyd, George, Bruce, Mike, Robert and James and their spouses, Patricia, Heidi, Joanne, Nicole, Elaine, and Annabel, as well as his 16 grandchildren, Chris, Andrew, Will, Lauren, Elle, Erin, John, George, Colyn, Michael, Jack, Sarah, Ian, Charles, Skye and Lachlan. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, June 15 at 11:00 am at St. Matthews Parish in Pacific Palisades.
