Robin DeVick-Porter Obituary

Vick-Porter, Robin Leslie de
February 19, 1962 - September 27, 2010
On September 27, our sweet, talented Robin was released back to the trees, landscapes and sky that she loved to paint. Robin was an artist, a business owner and a ray of light to all who knew her. She remained true to her heart throughout her life. She created vivid paintings and gorgeous hand-painted textiles, which she sold to luxury stores and boutiques across the world. Robin traveled extensively and allowed us to see the world through her richly-colored work.
Robin was raised in Seattle. While in high school she studied in France as an exchange student. Robin graduated the University of Washington with a BA in Fine Arts and French. After graduation, Robin started her business and lived in her downtown art studio, where she worked. She was a strong supporter of the arts, and donated her time, creativity and work extensively. She had a wide circle of friends, a group that continued to grow throughout her life.
In 1999, she married her beloved Ralph and left Seattle for Los Angeles. Once there her work evolved to reflect the more brilliant light of Southern California. In her last two years, Robin waged a courageous battle against cancer. In the end, she was surrounded by family and friends and was at peace. Robin will be remembered for her love of life and travel, her independence, her passion for adventure, her generosity, her wildly delightful sense of humor.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Porter; her mother, Erna DeVick; and her brother Jeff and sister-in-laws Claudia DeVick, Sallie Porter and Mary Jane Del Valle. Her extended family includes her grandmothers, Violet Wressell and Alberta DeVick, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and many friends. Her father John DeVick preceded her in death.
A gathering for Robin will be held on Sunday, November 21st at 3:00 p.m. at Cafe Metropol - 923 E 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013.

I own one of Robin's scarves, a gift from Jane Russell of Tacoma WA. I wore it the other day, and wondered if Robin was still creating textile art, and was sorry to find her obituary. Please take comfort knowing her beautiful creation lives on. RIP, Robin.

Ralph
I wanted to tell you how very sorry we are. I didn't know Robin well but when I
did meet her and saw both of you I immediately got the feeling that you were both the winds beneath each others wings. I pray for both of you daily.
Love,
Aunt Terry
