Sherman Given Obituary

Given, Sherman Bernard July 24, 1918 - December 30, 2005
Sherman (Tex) Bernard Given was born July 24, 1918, in Joliet, Illinois, to Esther and Louis Given. He was raised in El Paso, Texas, where among other things, he was the state champion in tennis for El Paso High School. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1940, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of the cavalry at Texas A & M and went on to become a first Lt. in the United States Army; where he served during the entirety of World War II. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles, and became a Partner in the Morley Building Company, which became Morley Construction Company. He retired as president of Morley Construction Company in 1980; and was responsible for much of its success and growth. After retirement, he earned his pilot and instrument certification for high performance aircraft. He served the public by performing "Angel Flights" for those in need. He is survived by Doris Given, his loving wife and companion of fifty-five years; his loving children Julie, Jennifer, and Bill, and Bill's wife Deborah, and his grandchildren Angela, Adrienne, Katie, and Kevin. He is also survived by his brothers Robert and Jim, and their respective wives Marian and Betty. Sherman was also survived by many other family members and friends. Sherman was an inspiration to us all and he significantly touched all who knew him. Memorial services will be held at: Leo Baeck Temple 1300 North Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA

Dori, I was so glad to see you on 20 December at the Brentwood Country Mart, and then so sorry to read that your very ill husband has passed away. My condolences to you and your family. I will be back in a week..hope to run into you again...df
