Stanley BROWN Obituary

BROWN, Stanley E. June 10, 1910-October 2, 2010 Stanley Brown died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, which he shared with his loving wife Marian of over 40 years, on October 2, 2010. Born in Chicago to Sam and Ella Brown. He was married to Yvonne Metzler from 1943-1966 when she died of leukemia. They had one daughter together, Patty. In 1947, he started Chandler Lumber Company, and until its closing in 1992 was a major force in distributing lumber and building materials to builders and developers throughout Southern California. He has been most instrumental in the field of philanthropy, acting as the president of the Reiss-Davis Clinic, Board of Governors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, a founder of the Music Center as well as a major contributor to City of Hope, Jewish Home for the Aging, Wilshire Boulevard Temple, LACMA's Building Fund, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well as numerous other local charities. He loved art, travel and golf. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family: Wife Marian; children Patty Myers (Marc), Bruce Charnas (Sharyn), Mark Charnas (Gretchen) and Gail Thornton; grandchildren Robert Myers (Carla), Scott Myers (Alison), Amanda Giroux (Todd), Rebecca Thornton, Maya Labourdette (Steve), Sara Center (Eric) and Ganon Orton (Jennifer) and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Today, Tuesday, October 5 at 2:00 pm, Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 West Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wilshire Boulevard Temple or to the charity of your choice.
