Stanley Goodman Obituary

March 15, 1938 - October 26, 2014 Dr. Stanley J. Goodman, beloved by family, friends and his community, died peacefully at age 76, Sunday, October 26, 2014. Born in Brooklyn to Charles and Miriam Goodman, he grew up in San Jose, CA. He excelled as a student, graduating with honors from Stanford University and UCLA School of Medicine. He drew great pleasure from a variety of interests and adventures, including his career in neurosurgery, mountaineering, running and Dodger baseball. He enjoyed good food, wine, travel, music and art. He was an outspoken intellectual, a philanthropist and a humanist in the best sense of these words. He thrived on collaborative interactions of all kinds, and by example he encouraged the exploration of personal passions in his friends and relatives. He was, foremost, a family man. He committed fully to the well-being of his wife and children, nurturing and supporting them while also cultivating and maintaining relationships with relatives both near and far. Although his influence enriched the lives of many, his gift to us all is the example that he set. He showed us how the pursuit of achievement fueled by passion can be balanced with integrity, the love of life and humanity. He is survived by his devoted wife Linda Goodman, son Jonathan Goodman, daughter Sharon Goodman Squires, daughter-in-law Linda Pearlman, son-in-law Todd Squires, sister Wendy Bookin, brothers-in-law David Soghor (Doris), William Soghor (Phyllis Herfield), and grandchildren Zoe and Talia Goodman, along with others too numerous to mention. Memorial services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park on Friday, October 31 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association or Planned Parenthood.
