Terry Bearman Obituary

Bearman, Terry Janis Libman
June 29, 1940 - November 4, 2010
Terry Janis Libman Bearman died on November 4, 2010. After growing up in St. Paul, Minnesota and going to college at both Northwestern and the University of Illinois, Terry moved to Los Angeles to pursue graduate studies in special education at UCLA. A gifted and dedicated educator, Terry worked with kids in various juvenile detention camps in the Los Angeles area after UCLA. In the 1970's, Terry founded and ran her own nonprofit organization called CHILD (Clearing House for Information on Learning Disabilities), working with children and their families to ensure positive educational experiences and outcomes. Terry was an adventurer all of her life, a lover of the outdoors (walking, hiking, skiing), horses (especially Lady and Elegante), her many close and lifelong friends, travel, her family, her neighborhood for 35 years (Rustic Canyon in Santa Monica, California), and her dogs (Sidney, Surprise, Boswell, Madigan, Elizabeth, Oliver and Susie). She was happiest when canoeing on Blue Lake at Camp Agawak in Minocqua, Wisconsin, or walking around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. Terry courageously battled Multiple Sclerosis since 1993 and is survived by her husband of 42 years, Mickey, her two daughters Liza and Alix, and her older sister, Dee Dee Fredericks. A service in Terry's memory will be held on Sunday, November 7th, at 3:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park at 6001 W. Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90045, (310) 641-0707. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Terry's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at http://www.nationalmssociety.org/donate/index.aspx, by mail to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163, or via phone at 1-800-344-4867.

Mickey, my deepest sympathy to you, Liza & Alix..My Mom, "Bunky" and I took care of Liza any time you & Terry vacationed as we lived just down the block from you in St Louis Park &when you moved to Knox Ave, we took care of Liza on many occasions.. Used to have talks at the kitchen table about the light fixture "Hilda".. My husband passed awau in 1997 when our son was 12, a very difficult time. PLEASE, if I can help in any way or ou want to talk, keep in mind that I'm available. Ihave a lot of printed material material that could be of benefit to you if & when you are ready. I went to a grief support group about 6 months after the death of my husband. Take care, Sandi Gudahl

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Terry. We spent many happy, fun years riding Lady together, discussing educational issues and sharing about our famiies. I reflect on that period of time as one of my fondest memories ever, and I will be forever grateful to her.
