Elaine Worsham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2012.
WORSHAM, ELAINE MAXINE February 25, 1921 - December 29, 2011 Elaine Worsham was born in Peace Valley, MO. She was raised in West Plains, MO, by parents, Oliver Blaine Jennings and Winnie Dunkin Jennings. She survived a brother, John, and a sister, Imogene. Around age 19, Elaine moved to El Paso, TX, and worked for American Airlines. Later she moved to California and married Charles Everett Worsham, known as Sandy. They had two children, Charles Everett Jr., known as Chuck and Sandra Suzanne. She worked many years for Leisure World setting up escrow offices across the country. At age 52, she began working for the State of California Parks and Recreation. While there, she successfully began a class action lawsuit for wage discrimination. Many women today are paid equal pay for equal work due to her courage and determination. She retired from the State at age 73. After retirement, Elaine enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren doing various activities. She followed the drag racing circuit, traveling to every race for 7 years. Fans and racers knew her as ??Grandma??, the statistician. After her health began to deteriorate, she lived quietly doing her crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. She is survived by her two children, Chuck Worsham and Sandra Murdent, four grandchildren, Del Worsham, Susan Worsham, Lewis Murdent, Julie Mitchell and five great grandchildren, James and Jacob Mitchell, Katelyn and Madelyn Worsham, and Lauren Murdent. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on February 8th in Villa Park, CA.

Sorry to hear of Grandma's passing. I will always remember her at the track - specifically in the grandstands - wearing a CSK team shirt and heels, watching and keeping notes on seemingly EVERY run in fuel. So glad you got to share so much with her; and her with us.

Chuck and Del,

Sorry to learn Grandma passes. She was a great lady and fun to be around. I lost both my mom and dad last year. My thoughts are with you.

I had the pleasure of sitting with Grandma in the Pomona stands 3 times. She always had a crowd around her rooting for Del. My sincere condolences on her passing.

Aunt Elaine was a remarkable lady who impacted many lives, mine included. I will carry her with me always and feel blessed to have been able to count her as 'family'.
