Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 28 to Jan. 31, 2016.
August 23, 1923 - January 20, 2016 Passed away January 20 at the age of 92. He was born August 23, 1923 in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles. As a young man, he attended South Pasadena High School and graduated as an All-League 2nd Baseman in 1942. While attending Pasadena Junior College, Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. During WWII he was with the 15th Air Force based in Italy. As a Bombardier on the B-24 Liberator, Jack participated in 34 missions over central Europe which he was lead Bombardier on 24 of those missions. He earned the Distinguished Flyer Cross, the Presidential Unit Citation as well as other medals while serving our country. After the war, Jack began his 55 year career in the office supplies industry selling to school districts in Southern California. Along the way he met his wife of 58 years Delores (Dee) who was a school teacher. They settled in Fullerton and raised 3 sons. In 2001 Jack finally retired from Office Depot as Vice President of Education Sales. During retirement he enjoyed playing golf & tennis, gardening, watching Angels Baseball and his Grandchildren grow into young adults. He especially loved spending weekends in San Clemente with friends & family. Jack had a long and blessed life and lived the American dream to the fullest. He is survived by his wife Dee, his sister Margaret in Pasadena, sons George, John & Tom and 4 Grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held in Fullerton on March 20. Jack McNevin was one of a kind. I have many, many fond memories of him. Though I always held him in high esteem, and knew he had served in World War II, I did not realize the extent of his contribution. It was an honor and a privilege to know him. Todd Cooley

Both my husband (Glenn Hardy) & I knew Jack from Stationers & later Office Depot. I was sorry to read of his passing but was blessed to have known him. My best to your family & the two boys I knew from school business as Director, Purchasing & Warehouse at Fountain Valley SD & later at Downey USD, retired 1998.
