I met Ira during a Columbia College Chicago Alumni event for those living in L.A., most of whom were in the film industry. I almost didn't go to it, but one of the college execs who was in town with a group from the school to conduct the event, called me at work and practically insisted that I come to it. I worked a short distance away from where it was being held, so I went. There were several Columbia alums there, and Ira was sitting with a group that included some people from the radio and t-v departments, as I was. We never crossed paths at Columbia, but we had a FANTASTIC time, chatting, getting to know one another, and establishing a great friendship. I had known Ira's work with the comedy group The Conception Corporation, and it was so wonderful to be spending time with him. He shared stories of he and Murphy Dunne meeting Mel Brooks and eventually getting cameo roles in several of Mel's movies, and of a movie he produced and directed called "Loose Shoes", which Murphy did some music for. We stayed in touch for a few years, but weren't able to clear our schedules to get together again. I remained in contact with him after moving back to Chicago, and when I visited L.A. on vacations, I was at least able to talk with him on the phone. I cherish the time we were able to talk, and wish there had been more opportunities to get together in person. He was so much fun to be around. I miss him, and pray that he is at peace. To all of his family and friends, my sincere condolences, even though it's more than five years after his passing, and I pray you find comfort, strength, smiles and laughter in your memories of him....I'm sure he wants you to.

Ira and I have known each other for sixty years.
we crashed the Republican convention together in 1956 by posing as camera men. We wore standard headphones. security was much more lax than today. We have contacted each other on our birthdays each year. Ira made his last call on no one's birthday. His timing was off. I was concerned, and asked, but he didn't let on. He will be missed.
