Thomas Armagost Obituary

March 15, 1957 - June 3, 2014 Tom Armagost of Riverside, CA. passed away at City of Hope after a six month battle with cancer. He was born in Alexandria, VA. to John & Neta Armagost. The family moved to San Marino, CA. when Tom was eight years old. His cartoons were published in the San Marino High School newspaper, The Titan Shield, and everyone enjoyed his satirical and political cartoons. Tom graduated in 1975 and continued his studies at Pitzer College (Class of '82) in Claremont, CA. Tom was a film major at Pitzer, while continuing to refine his unique cartooning style. During his time at Pitzer, Tom met his spouse of 25 years, Antonette Zulli. Tom had a brilliant mind and was an extremely gifted writer and artist. His stories were fascinating and he created numerous cartoon characters that had a life of their own. He was a devoted animal lover, from the birds in his back yard trees to the cats he adored, he had the deepest respect and empathy for all creatures. Tom was a funny, kind and generous soul who left us all too soon. Those who knew him will miss his bright light, hearty laughter, and doodles on every piece of paper he touched. Tom is survived by his lifelong love, Dr. Antonette Zulli of Riverside, CA.; his mother, Neta Armagost of San Marino, CA.; his sister, Kathleen Anderson and his loving aunt, cousins, nieces and nephew. Tom was predeceased by his grandparents, Walter & Clara Armagost, Clarke & Neta Richards; and his father, John Armagost.

Tom, I miss you. Who now can we turn to, when we need our reality checked, or when our mindscapes could use a bit of gardening. Rest my friend, you have earned it.

So many great times, so many great memories. You were a creative genius. You were an inspiration. You literally saved my life. When life caused us to drift apart, we stayed best of friends. Now that you are gone, we will be best of friends for all time.

I was very sad to hear of Tom's passing when John Jamieson told me. He was probably the most original artist I've known and his cartoons always made me laugh, as well as his renditions of Firesign Theater routines, his great laugh and ironic look at life. I am very sorry we had lost touch over the years, but remember him very fondly. My deepest sympathy to his partner, mother and sister Kathleen for this very sad loss much too early in life.
