Frans Boerlage Obituary

October 1, 1926 - September 9, 2014 87, passed away in Santa Monica Ca. after battling Parkinson's for 15+ years. Born in Holland 10/01/1926. Became an Opera Stage Director, spent 23 years at The University of Southern California Los Angeles, Seattle Opera, Netherlands Opera, Barcelona, Spain and produced more than 200 productions. He directed all over the world. He was also a writer and published 5 books, poems, plays, Operas and Musical Theatre. Frans and his husband Joseph Harrington, 37 year residents of Santa Monica, enjoyed traveling the world and sharing their experiences with their beloved friends and families. In addition to Joseph, Frans is survived by niece Margaretha Huard, nephew Andrew Boerlage (USA) and nieces and nephews Hermina Croall, Anneke Mallen, Frans Jan Duys, Frank Boerlage, Ulbracht Jan Boerlage, Arend Boerlage and Jan Roelof Boerlage (Netherlands and South Africa). Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Frans T. Boerlage to Parkinson's Foundation 1359 Broadway Suite 1509 NY, NY 10018. Private Memorial Services will be held.

Frans taught me how to play a mezzo-soprano/pants role for the first time while working on my masters at USC (Sesto, La Clemenza di Tito). He opened my eyes as how to be authentic and real in characterization and I went in to have a lovely opera career. Thank you Frans and may you have peace after such a life well lived!
