Sophie Caan Obituary

June 24, 1915 - January 18, 2016 Sophie Caan passed away at the age of 100 on January 18, 2016 Sophie was born on June 24, 1915 to Regina and Moses Falkenstein. She had nine siblings. Sophie came to America in 1934 where she met her beloved husband Arthur Caan in New York. There, they had three children; James, Barbara, and Ronald. In 1976, Sophie and Arthur followed their children to Beverly Hills, CA where they lived their rest of their lives. Sophie was an outgoing woman who embraced life to its fullest. She was a very social woman who was loved by everyone and Sophie cherished her time with her family and friends. She was always the bell of the ball with a beautiful smile and loved to share jokes that raised eyebrows. One of her greatest passions was her love of golf and the golf G-D's smiled down on her and gave her three holes in one to prove it. Sophie was forever heartbroken by the loss of her daughter Barbara. She helped to raise her daughters children, Gayle and Dana. Sophie is survived by her two sons, James and Ronald, her nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Sophie was loved by all and had special relationships with everyone she touched. Words cannot describe the way she connected with people. We will forever miss Sophie's zest for life, acceptance for everyone, her amazing sense of humor, and her timeless beauty.

My earliest memories of childhood involved Sophie and Arthur. They were always there for me and I loved them deeply. I am so sorry that I am only learning of Sophie's passing at this late date. I left like I was a part of her family. Her passing is a great loss to everyone who knew her and loved her. She is at peace with Arthur and Barbara.

Just learned tonight that I lost my golf friend Sophie Caan. 15 years ago, I lived in Los Angeles and played golf at Rancho Park on Pico Blvd in L.A. near the Fox Studio. I met Sophie and teamed up with her and her man friend #7. I asked what happen to the other 6? She said they all died. They couldn't keep up with me. Her man friend asked do you know who she is? I said who? He said James Caan's Mother. He played in the Godfather. Wow! she was 85 when we met. She invited me to play with them every 2 weeks if I wasn't too busy with work. She was fun to play with and she told the best stories and great dirty jokes. I had fun with you Sophie...... take care!

Hello Mr. Caan, I'm sorry for the loss of your mom. I used to play golf with your mom at Rancho Park on Pico Blvd, LA. Her man golf friend said, do you know who this person is? no who is she. He said, James Caan's mother he played in Godfather. From then on she invited me to play with her every 2 weeks. We use too play the 9 holes and walk the course. She was in her 90's when we met full of spirit and laughter. She would talk about you and the grandkids all the time. She would tell dirty jokes all the time. My wife and her mother would meet her in a Beverly Hills Salon at the beauty parlor every week. I just watch this video of you visiting Israel. And you wrote a message to your sister and mother and put it in the wall. I'm just learning that she is gone. I had fun with your mom....take care Sophie!

So sorry for your loss. At such a difficult time we can find hope with this promise :Isaiah 30 :19 "He will surely show you favor at the sound of your cry for help ;he will answer you as soon as he hears it." Knowing God wants to help us endure trials, can be of comfort. May His love and strength sustain your family during this time of bereavement.
With sympathy,
