Robert Mirman

1930 - 2017

November 22, 1930 - October 31, 2017 Robert Mirman, 86, of Beverly Hills, passed away Tuesday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Pittsburgh on November 22nd, 1930 to his father Irving and his mother Anne who he often referenced as a Saint. They moved to Los Angeles in 1940. He loved horses and at 14 he worked to buy his own horse. When his father found out he sold the horse. It was then Bob ran away from home for six months until a private detective found him at a race track in Portland working with horses and living in a barn having the best time of his life. At 17 Bob joined the USMC (1948-52) and claimed his time there was the best experience and training him for whatever the future held for him. In 1953 he opened his first retail tire store. Soon after he had stores in 90 locations in 5 states and employed over 1,000 people. He soon became America's independent company selling over 8,000 a week. He sold out and retired in 1969, but that only last one year. Bob used to joke you don't retire at 39 because you don't have anyone to play with. In 1970 he opened West Coast Tire & Service: A single location that he turned into one of the most profitable single locations in the country and voted the 10 best run operations in the country. Since he semi-retired in 2016 Bob had been involved with his son Brad and their charity Dive Warriors, a non-profit that teaches our nation's disabled veterans to scuba dive and takes them diving every month. Bob claimed that watching how this program healed so many disabled veterans and being able to help them in some small way was one of the most rewarding things he had ever done. Bob's greatest success was his family. Married for 40 years to the love of his life and his best friend Matlin he would often tell others how she made his life complete. He leaves behind his son Brad and daughter Stacy (Kevin) and would often say that every parent should be so lucky to have children like them. He had 3 wonderful grandchildren Nicole (Kevin), Mason (Erin), and Tom (Allie), and they were not only his grandchildren, but best friends. Bob loved his Saturday morning breakfasts with them. He also leaves behind his loving sister-in-law Irit (Amos) and several great friends, many who spanned 60 - 70 years: George R., Shelley A., Stuart R., Bobby S. and Klary P. Bob didn't have a 'bucket list.' He said he accomplished everything he set out to do. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Guido Marcucci and his team at City of Hope for their care, compassion and total dedication for all they did. Bob left this life the way he lived. On his terms. Great life. Great family. Great friends. No regrets.
