LAURINBURG — Mr. Michael James McNickle, 59, passed away Feb. 27, 2017 after a long illness.
He was born August 20, 1957 in Battle Creek, MI to the late James Byron & Mae Burns McNickle.
Michael coached little league ball in various capacities in Scotland County. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed camping. In his later years, Michael's enjoyment in life was found in his three grandsons who he enjoyed spending time with.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Janet Meads McNickle of the home; sons, Justin McNickle (Amanda) of Laurel Hill; and Byron McNickle of Asheboro; grandsons, Ayden, Maddox, and Cooper; sister-in-law, Donna Plants of Laurinburg; brothers, Brad McNickle of Sanford; and Gary McNickle of Ind.; nephews, Shawn and Matthew; great nieces, Bella and Katherine.
A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be held 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 at St. Johns United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Harold Hunt. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Memorials are suggested in Michael's memory to: Scotland County Humane Society, 1401 West Blvd, Laurinburg, NC, 28352; or Randolph Fellowship in Randolph County, PO Box 2543, Asheboro, NC 27204.

Mick, you will truely be missed. I will miss your stories about your wife and children/grandchildren you spoke so highly of and lived for. Prayers to the family and may others realize how important friends and family are needed at such a dark place of illness. RIP mick, love yah.

My dear lord, mick. You will never be forgotten. I too only knew mike a short period of time but he will impact my life forever. I pray for the whole family and everyone and anyone else who's life this has impacted. May god be with you. He spoke so highly of his wife, children and grandchildren. I know he will be missed.
