Jim was one of the most gentle men I ever worked work. I knew where his gentleness came from however! He passed by example as Jesus did and as we are supposed to as followers of Jesus Christ. I miss his comradeship! Doug Messer

My condolences to the Higby family. I have such fond memories of seeing and visiting with your dad out at the softball fields each summer. It was always so evident how much he loved his family, his God, and his country and he was a blessing to all who knew him. Your family is in our prayers.

So sorry to hear of your loss, we just heard which is why we did not attend the services. We always respected your Dad who was such a Godly man who never waivered. I appreciated his support during the recent loss of my parents, it meant alot. While we know he is now in a better place, we do understand the feeling of loss and pain you are experiencing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May God keep you and wrap his comforting arms around you. All our love,

Matt, Georgina, Meribeth, and Charity,
David said that one of you let him know about your father's passing away. Thank you for letting us know. I was very sad to hear it, and I know that it is hard on you all to have both of your parents gone when you all are still as young as you are. You had wonderful parents, and I have certainly missed them since they moved away from here. It was great to hear of your dad's continued testimony honoring Christ. He gave you all a great legacy. We will be praying for you as you adjust to his not being there with you.

Georgina, Matt, Meribeth and Charity,
It was with great sadness that I learned of your dad's passing on to be with the Lord and reunited with your mother. Although I know the two of them are so happy to be together once again, I also know how hard it is for you. I had great admiration for your father and was privileged that he shared with me some of his work in Afghanistan. I always thought he was so brave to go there during this terrible war. His commitment was absolute. I also know how much he loved the four of you. There were many times after a softball game that he stayed and we would talk, and it was often about our kids. He was really so proud of you! One thing I know he always got a kick out of was being able to play softball on the same team as his son and two of his daughters. In his and my generation as children, teens and young adults, that just didn't happen! I will miss his emails and his constant and deep faith. Meribeth, Brooke extends her sympathies to you as well. On behalf of the Las Cruces Church Softball League, you are in our prayers.

Jim was a creative, passionate, and caring christian man to work with. He always put the needs of others ahead of his. I had the pleasure of working with Jim in the late 90's lobbying for resources to plan and build the new Professional Development Center. Jim always put the needs of others ahead of himself.

Matt, Georgina, Meribeth and Charity,
Your dad touched many lives while here on earth and he was concerned about their salvation. I remember stories he told me about leading people to the Lord. I know he loved God more than anything else and He was most important to him. His desire was to do the Lord's work and he did to the very end of his life. He witnessed to people around the world wherever he was. We will miss him, but it is a REAL COMFORT to know where he is today...with his Lord and reunited with your mother and other loved ones. It is a joy to know we can see him again someday.
He was very proud of each of you and loved you very much. Always remember that. He wants to see each of you in Heaven with him and your mother someday.
We all will miss him, but we have a lot of great memories we can treasure.
We love you and will keep you all in our prayers.
The wonderful service you had for him today speaks of what kind of a person he was. We love him and appreciated him for what he stood for. He was a wonderful brother. Love you.

While heretofore I had no idea that Jim had become a minister, somehow that does not surprise me in the least. When I knew him as a fellow education services officer for the Army Continuing Education System, I was always impressed by his genuinely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable persona.
I could wish only that all of the professionals I met in that line of work had been as sincere, positive, and supportive as Jim Higby. His contributions will continue to affect all of us whose lives he touched, and we are the better for having known him.

The entire family of Reverend Higby is in our thoughts and prayers and we are so very sorry for your loss. Reverend Higby was such a support to me during the time that my mother was battling cancer and made sure to call me often to see how we were all doing and if we needed anything. He always kept my mother and our family in his prayers during our time of need and I will never forget that. He will truly be missed.

There is not enough people like Jim in this world. Loving, giving, modest, humble, and God fearing. He has left a large void in this world. But now he is at the feet of Jesus, reunited with his wife. Now he is truely at peace.

Jim was a wonderful help to us when my husband was pastor in Germany. Always humble but ever a servant, he was a great leader in our church as was Judy. After my husband died in 2007 it was Jim who helped me through my own grief process.
In the midst of that time he became my confidant and good friend. Even this year when I needed a new car it was to Jim that I turned for advice. I will not pass through Mtn. Grove without expecting to meet him for a hamburger, a coke, and an hour of chat. He was first and foremost a servant of the Lord. He loved his children and he loved his Judy. Your loss on earth of your dad surely brought joy to heaven. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."--Psalm 116:15
You children were blessed to have godly
dad. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Matt, Meribeth, Charity and Georgina:
I was shocked to learn of your Dad's passing and know what a terrible loss it is for you, your families and Jim's faith community.
Your dad selected me to come to work at the Army Education Center WSMR in 1989 when I needed to get back to the States from Germany to help take care of my Mom who was living in Albuquerque. I worked with him until I retired in 2003. I will never forget the many kindnesses he showed to me while at WSMR and how proud he was of his family, faith and God.

Mr. Higby, we celebrate the life you lived, and all the things you gave, every hug, every laugh, and heartfelt conversation you had with your daughters. These memories of you, Mr. Higby are the things that will comfort and save us.
As we think of you with hearts so full of love;
We’re looking up at you, As you look at us from above.
Into your hands, Lord we humbly entrust Mr. Higby. In this life you embraced him with your tender love, you blessed him with children, grandchildren. You blessed him with joy, happiness and adventure.
Welcome him into to the gates of heaven, were he will be reunited with you, Our Father, and Judith. Where, In your presence there will be no sorrow, no weeping nor pain, but the fullness of peace and joy.
