There´s a nostalgia page on Facebook for Athens and today someone shared a photo of dudes hanging out at Blue Sky coffee in 1996. It took me right back to evenings at Blue Sky at that same time watching Phil drink his late night cup of coffee. Enthusiastically chatting about movies. I thought I´d come back to this memory page and say that I think of Phil often. Whether hanging out in Athens or in Atlanta in the years before I moved away in 2004. He was just a legitimately good guy. Kind, thoughtful. He is missed.

I miss him so much. He was one of my first friends at college my Sophomore year, and I was glad to have had a good conversation the last time I saw him.

I was a friend of Phil's from UGA, from the vampire games and such. My best memories of Phil and our other friends were more about just hanging out, however, rather than actually playing the vampire game--watching everyone talk about vampire like it was real life was a riot!

My deepest condolences to you all. I know what it is like to lose a young person in the family, as we lost one of my nephews a four years ago. Even though we have not met, I have been thinking of you and wishing you peace.

Phil was my co-worker. I called him the human brain because thats what he was. He was always making things better for us at work. Such as different programs he created just so our work will be easier. In my position we have to do be very analytical. Phil help me in alot of different areas. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Rhonda, Charlie, Martha, Jennifer, and Geoff ... I cannot begin to imagine the emotion you're coping with. Please know you all are in the forefront of our thoughts and prayers. This doesn't seem real. Not too long ago, I was reminiscing about when we had dinner at Rose Hill and Philip was telling me about a video game he'd gotten into.

I love you all, and I love Philip.

Words really cannot express the loss our crew has experienced with your untimely departure. You were always there for all of us when we needed you and you truly knew how to be a friend. Many times you were there to help me work out my problems over a smoke and I treasure those memories more than you will ever know. Thank you for just being yourself all these years and my thoughts and prayers are with your family today. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten.

Phil was one of my best friends freshman year at UGA, and even after. I will always cherish our long nights of smoking, chattin' and coffee-drinking at the IHOP. We spent many hours trying to figure out the world. He was more important to me than he realized. I hope he finds peace.

September 30, 2009

Many isolated memories would fill up this page, and more. However, I keep going back to that strange week in 1997, when Tori and I were systematically coached by you and the Creswell crew to play "Athens by night". TWe could not understand either the rules or the purpose of the game. "You then encounter your opponent, and you play paper/rock/scissors". Right! Still, we relented. Dressed up in our Masquerade's best, we arrived to the old Tate center to pay our entry fee. Immediately we saw someone chasing another person, hands raised in the air screaming " I AM A WEREWOLF!!!". Tori and I immediately turned back to the cash register to get out money back.

Our college experience could be told by those wooden tables behind Creswell Hall. I hope they did not dare replace them. They miss you, as we all do, my friend.

Warm Hugs,

Daniel Vasquez

One of your most important memories of college is the first time you stayed up all night with friends and watched the sun rise. I am proud to say that I shared that memory (among many others, good and bad) with Phil Clippinger. Thanks, Phil, for showing me how to enjoy the small things in life.

I remember on the night of the Atlanta tornado I called the Hotline and Phil answered the phone. I asked "what happening down there? What's going on? Is everything OK? Phil says "Yeah everything is fine why" so I tell him It looks like you had a tornado down there from what I see on the TV. He says "I don't know anything about that, the game ended so I was turning off the blackout and I just was out having a smoke... I am getting ready to leave

In all my interactions with Phil he was always very witty and intelligent. I will miss him around the office. Please accept my sincerest condolences for this most grievous tragedy. My toughts and prayers are with you during this sorrowful time.

Sincerely,
Jim Braun

I had the pleasure of working with Phil for almost 4 years at Turner. An expert at resolving technical problems, he came across as dignified and professional when dealing with clients on the phone. But when you had a chance to talk with him one-on-one you met the real Phil. I found his dry wit and sophisticated sense of humor made him a pleasant person to talk to and to be around. He will be sorely missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and co-workers.

In this very difficult time may you find peace and strength. Your family is in my prayers. I worked with Phil for many years and must say he was a genius of borderline genius. Very intelligent. I'm still in shock. I will remember him fondly.

I have vivid memories of Philip being in our home and in so many aspects of my son Seth's life. His wit, his intelligence and the ever-present (mischievous?) twinkle in his eye always made me smile and added to the fun in our household. Most of all, Philip, I will always be moved by, and grateful for the kind of friend you have been to Seth.

My heart goes out to all of you in Philips' family. Please know that you are in my thoughts and in my prayers.

It is a shame immeasurable by words to have lost such a bright and caring person so early in his life. Phil was an amazing friend and a joy to be around and brightened any room he walked into. Goodbye, Phil. We will all miss you greatly. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories. DragonCon 2008 will live on forever.

It is very difficult for me to find the right words to say as I am still in shock and disbelief. I worked with Phil for 8 years and considered him not only an employee, but a good friend. As I reflect on the 8 years that we worked as a team, I think about his technical knowledge and his ability to resolve cable affiliate issues. I remember the times we worked together on projects such as our antennas on the roof of our building. Also, I remember the good times we had designing and building putt-putt courses for Friday’s game day. It was a time when I saw Phil’s humor and creativity. Also, I remember the time that someone asked “What should we do to celebrate Phil’s Birthday?”…French fries from Just around the Corner, Diet Dr. Pepper (cans), and Camel Lights:-)

I am deeply sad by our loss and I will definitely miss him.

My deepest condolences go out to his family. I have and will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that God blesses you during this time of grief.

Sincerely,
Trent Blalock
